by , 07-08-2014 at 03:59 PM (Memories of the 28th Century)
I realize that I claimed that evolution had ended, but that may have been slightly exaggerated. While humans were essentially built the way they are quite a while ago, it appears that evolution is continuing in the same direction now. You have probably read ideas of humans turning into lightly muscled large brained animals with no hair at all in the future. That isn’t how evolution has been going over the last thirty thousand years.

Brain size has actually fallen a bit, especially ...

  2. Strange Authors from The Saint Magazine

Spent the afternoon going through my copies of The Saint Magazine. These were mystery digests published from 1953-1967 with a very three issue 1984 revival. Missing 36 of the original 141 issue run and the last two issues of the revival. The idea was to index any author I had an interest in so I could locate them later when wanting to read them.

Some authors noted were a bit of a surprise. Isaac Asimov (06-56), Pearl Buck (04-58, 04-66), Ray Bradbury (06-84), Erskine Caldwell (05-56), ...

  5. If it’s Broke, Then Fix It

by , 07-01-2014 at 06:56 PM (Memories of the 28th Century)
I know the old saw is “If it’s not broke, then don’t fix it,” and that isn’t bad advice, but people have made huge amounts of money changing things just because they want to. Then there are the products that were changed and soon left the scene. I recently told a bartender about a beer that he had never heard of, because it was “fixed” so l that it went out of production. Maybe you remember Tuborg. It is a Danish beer (link below), and in the early 1970’s it started shipping to the U.S.A., and it ...
