  1. Return to Iraq

But before we return to our scheduled blog--a quick update on the wayward nephew.

I'm jealous. He has friends with money. A buddy actually paid $1000 to get his sorry self out of jail. The stipulation was that said friend had to get approval from my sister and brother-in-law and Stephen's wife Julie. I flat out told him I would have left him there sorry about your luck.

He called while I was at work Sunday night so I only had a few minutes. Julie told him she was ...

  2. Blood baths and Juicy-ness

My good friend leaves this friday. Off to college! He is really excited, but nervous at the same time. Anyways...

Today was a good day. Can't complain...didn't argue with my brother for more than five minutes, which lately, thats pretty darn good. There is a piece of research from post-WWII done by Stanley Milgram and called, not surprisingly, the Milgram Experiment. It turns out that human beings are more willing to inflict pain on others than they are to defy authority figures. There are good evolutionary grounds for this behavior (see lion story in post 3 for details) but it does rather fly in the face of our concept of ourselves as “choosing” what we do and the concept of “free will” at least with respect to praxis. What interests me ...

  5. a load of dirt

Remember that Beatles song, The best things in life are free? The next line is “but you can keep them for the birds and bees I want money.” It’s funny how their music changed once they had money.

Back to the issue of having less. I have sort of been in a race with myself; a contest to see how little I can have. I do still buy yeast and flour in bulk, but otherwise I guess I buy very little. I will admit it is hard to make the change.

We moved into this little farm ...
