    Syphilis really did come from the Americas, suggests a new study.

    There has been a long-running row over from where the dreaded disease came. But new genetic data from deep in the jungles of Guyana suggests that while other forms of this bacterium have plagued humans since early in our evolution, it emerged as venereal syphilis only when carried back to Europe by Columbus and his crew.....

    I didn’t know it would hurt you.
    I didn’t know it would make an enormous impact.
    It did. And now I know how you feel.

    I just wanted to blog about a sad situation that unfolded in front of me this past weekend.

    I was at a gas station and I noted this little girl, no more than seven or eight years old, mulling around the establishment. When one is waiting for gas, one has time to see things that usually might go missed. This little one seemed to flit from customer to customer. Then, my gas was done, so I went inside to pay.
