Catch-22

Rate this Entry
Blah! Well I just recently found out that my favorite poetry forum which I served as an admin for and where I posted the majority of my work is currently down, as apparently the forums subscription was up and had not been paid.

I do not not know if or when it will be back up again, the owners of the form were never that actively involved, and I know the question of the subscription renewal came up recently and they expressed a difficulty in being able to afford it.

So now I don't know what I am going to do. Of course I can, and will continue to post my work here, but there are advantages to having a forum which is dedicated primarily only to poetry and it is so difficult finding decent poetry forums.

Or perhaps I am just picky in what I expect and look for in a poetry forum that it takes me forever to find one I like, though part of the reason for this is as I have discussed in a previous post, that many forums make it so difficult for a member to leave and I have had bad experiences with this before. So before I will join a forum I am very particular about its set up.

Which causes often a Catch-22 as many poetry forums for reasons that are understandable do not allow Guests to really view the forum and require registration to access it.

So most forums you have to register for to actually get to see what it is like, and I typically will not register for a forum unless I can see what the layout of it is.

I know how you feel darkmuse. This and the particular forum you were talking about are the only two forums I am on and will continue to be on if it is re-opened. I will miss it terribly as it was only dedicated to poetry and the other members had some great tips, which helped immensly. I did however indulge in the games, (as I love to do) but when I did publish poetry there, the response was amazing, to say the least. You and the other members on the site, were great... If I could afford it, I would help... But being unemployed, doesn't help. Please keep me informed and let me know if you find another place just as good. (which I am sure will be hard to find)

Yay crisis adverted, maybe it was just a techniqual glitch. I did not know what I was going to do if it did not come back.

Glad to hear it's back. I hope that you have backup copies of your poetry - on a memory stick or two - so you don't run the risk of losing it entirely. On a forum, though, there are often valuable comments you wish to save, and i don't have an immediate solution for that.

Yes all my work is saved in one form or another. A lof of it I do write by hand on paper before typing it up and the rest is saved either on a memory stick or in my saved e-mail files.

I save everything on a memory stick. And my recent novel has been saved on 3 memory stiicks... As I am a paranoid freak.
