hmm. that's interesting.

I've sat here every night for the last week, staring at this empty computer screen. The cursor blinks at me, kind of taunting me. I want to make it do something. Anything. I've got that itch. You know, that one that only a finished piece can cure? Well, I've just about stomped my usual inspirations into the ground. I've got nothing new to report. Nothing humorous. Nothing remotely intriguing to divulge. I could bore you all with the latest trials and troubles with my truck, the White Bastard, but even as much as I love making it work better, I'm sick of thinking on it. (I named it the White Bastard, because at the ranch it is tradition to have your vehicle named by color and temperament.)
It strikes me as interesting and slightly disturbing that inspiration only sparks during times of intense emotion, like a new heartache or a period of longing. As of now, I have money worries. (who doesn't during tax season?) Other than that, I've got nothing to worry about.
Does anyone else have this problem? I don't know if it's a problem or not, just I find it kind of frustrating.

I've been entertaining myself with this little smiley=

I think that's pretty normal skib. The skill in a writer is being able to turn on the tap at will, but it takes practice. Of everything I've read by published/successful writers their advice is always to write something every day even if it's rubbish and you just throw it in the bin. Writing is a muscle, it needs exercise if you're going to get the best out of it.

I love that smiley too  This is my current favorite I think :willy_nilly: I think it makes me think of how my house feels to me.

As for everything else, I don't only find my inspiration in times of emotional stress, but I tend to NEED to write or paint or anything creative during those times. I tend to use those times to just get my ideas down on paper, and then I try to write to them later. It doesn't always work since I've more ideas than time but I've kind of gotten used to that.

hey skib -- I think the two ladies offered some really good feedback. It's pretty normal to feel like you've got nothing to say. Life is usually just getting on: fixing cars, eating a quick meal, doing the paperwork.

Still, this sentence is one that I really like:

"It strikes me as interesting and slightly disturbing that inspiration only strikes during times of intense emotion, like a new heartache or a period of longing."

oh good. It's refreshing to hear your words and advice. I guess it never clicked that even if I end up throwing everything out, I still feel better.
Upon reviewing that sentence Comedian, I just realized i used the word 'strikes' twice. Whoops!
    thanks again!

Then you need to strike one of those "strike"s lest these sensitive LitNetters be stricken by seeing you write a word like "strike" more than once regardless of how striking the sentence may sound upon a first read.

Dare I say, "The Comedian strikes again"? And I do.

Oh Skib, I loved this entry!! When i first looked at the block of words, before I even read it, I saw "the White Bastard" capitalized in the middle of the paragraph, before I realized it was referring to your truck, I thought this was going to be a racist rant.

Well, I could go on one of those too if you like.
it would be titled with this generic label:
"I'm Not Racist, I Hate Everybody!"
