More snow, more cold

More snow today. More cold. Thank God.

It was 15 degrees (f) this morning. I didn't wear a coat or a hat.

I arrived at work early and got out of my car to walk the short distance to my building. Some else got out of her car at about the same time. She was bundled from head to toe: down coat, wool hat, gloves. . . . .

"Forget your coat?" she asks.

"No. I only wear coats when it's cold outside" I reply and smile.

She laughs. I laugh. We walk together and share some pleasant small talk about Thanksgiving.

I didn't tell her this: That I love the creeping chill of winter. I love how winter walks slowly through my clothes like they weren't even there. I love the pure smell of ice. I love the crunch of snow underfoot. I love the stillness. And most of all, I love how winter reminds us that we live by a thread and a whim and that warmth is a great gift too often assumed as necessity of human life.

I'm looking forward to winter. I love the clean, crisp smell that the air takes on, and I especially love the smell of woodsmoke in the morning. There are quite a few homes around me that still use wood to heat their homes, and I love the scent when I'm on my way out in the morning.

You're a good bit further north than me if you have 15 degree temps and snow. That or you're in the mountains out west, in which case I'm a bit jealous. It always sounds so pretty where you live, and it makes me miss the mountains and sea that much more:)

Uhh, here in Wisconsin when usually at this time of year, the landscape is a frozen wasteland; there is not a spec of snow

Oh Comedian, I understand this strange love many folks have for winter.
It snowed here for the first time, but didn't stick. It was a mix of rain and snow, yuck.
I want a good dumping, that makes me late for work. You know the kind?

Oh how sad am I... It never snows in Melbourne, Aus. I can only wish to see snow one day. You are so fortunate to enjoy the beauty and chill of a real winter.

You sound like me. I only wish it got colder here! Most people love CA for its weather, and I hate it!

You guys are all nuts. I can't stand the winter, the cold, and the snow.

Hey, did Virgil, just call us nuts... You should enjoy the winter as you do summer. It is what nature intended. Virg!

I despise cold weather anymore. On the other hand, I really, really, really miss snow. I long to watch the snow fall. I'm from northern Oklahoma where it snowed a couple of times a year, and I now live in Texas where it never snows. Oh sometimes a few flakes drift down and they call it snow, but to me that's not really snow.

I think falling snow is the most beautiful thing in the world, and I sometimes wonder if I'll ever see it again.

You are so right, Comedian, warmth is a great gift I adore watching logs burn in a fireplace, too. Winter's gifts are not as obvious as summers, but they do exist. Thanks for the reminder, Comedian!

Falling snow is pretty. Even the first snow fall is pleasant. Driving in it sucks and shoveling really sucks.

Mary - If it were natural for man to enjoy the winter, he would have been born with a fur coat for a skin.

I'm glad that I'm not the only fan of cold, snowy days. I like other weather too, but there's something about snow falling on the pines that lets you know your alive.

Virgil -- Shovel snow? Sounds like someone needs a snow blower.

I got one Comedian. But I only use it if it's over six inches of snow. You guys have to realize I live in the city. Pretty snow lasts about a day. Then it's dirty slush and getting around is a chore. And dangerous.

It can get cold enough here but no snow... last year we had a little snow fall but that was for a few days. Lots of ice and frost. I like the frost and the crisp feel of the frosty air! I love winter! I'm really looking forward to getting over to canada in January to see a real winter!
