Tis the Season to Go Green!

Being the conservationist that I am, I am constantly seeking ways to reduce my negative impact upon the Earth and last Yule Tide I was left contemplating over all of the needless meaningful waste that is produced during the holidays, particularly in the form of the whole gift wrapping paper problem. I was left rather discouraged by this fact and my own contributing to the problem and how dreadfully bad for the environment it all must be in several different ways and thus set my mind to coming up with a solution and abolishing my own use of wrapping paper.

I have turned over in my head what I could replace wrapping with to be more eco friendly, I had contemplated wrapping presents in news paper which could than be recycled afterworld instead of just thrown away, as well as reusing old paper instead of using brand new paper, when finally I saw the answer to the problem perfectly obvious staring me in my face.

Duh!

Why not just use gift bags for everything, for they could than be reused year after year, and would create no new waste, and help spare the trees.

In addition I told my family that I wanted all of the gifts they get for me to be placed in gift bags rather than wrapped to be eco friendly, unwrapping things might be more fun, but it is time to start making even the smallest of sacrifices for the good of the Earth.

When I was telling my mom about my intent to start an eco friendly holiday, she loved the idea, and said she was going to do the same thing and just use gift bags for everything, and put little cards in the bag stating the choice to use gift bags over wrapping paper with the intent of being more eco friendly for the Holidays, to try and inspire other people to start doing the same thing.

It's a good idea DM. We moved away from sending Christmas cards a few years ago, and instead donate the money we would have spent to charity instead. It's a small thing, but I think that a whole load of small things will make the difference.

That reusable gift bag idea is brilliant. I wonder if you could patent it, though it may already be patented. Could bring you a fortune.

Paper though is recycled these days. I don't see the problem with using it.

Most people probably do not take the time to recyle wrapping paper and of corse the whole industry and having to make it has its own enviromental costs, the cutting down of the trees, and the dyes they use to color it I imagine are bad for the enviroment, and so on and so forth.

But with the bags, you wouldn't have to get new ones every year if you reused them, so it would cut back on the enviromental costs in a few different ways.

I use tissue paper that I have saved. But the idea of reusing gift bags is great, b/c the presentation is nice as well.
