Halls of the Dark Muse

Can't get enough of Camus

Rate this Entry
I think that Camus may be my sub-concious mind. Though The Fall is not as enaging as a story as The Stranger was, reading it, is like seeing m own thoughts put into words.

I tell my friends that I have a dead French writer living inside of my head.

From The Fall by Camus

There are always reasons for mudering a man. On the contrary, it is impossible to justify his living. That's way crime always finds lawyers and innocence only rarely.

It's always difficult when I like a person but not an author they like. I freely admit my biggest complaint about Camus is his suicide and THAT is for WAY too many real life reasons but I especially hate it when perhaps because of the person I like that MAYBE I'm missing something. The grizzley rolls back over and goes back to sleep--with an itch.

hehe well you do have to keep in mind my bleak view of humanity in considering my personal like for Camus. I do tend to go for the cynics.

Wait, wait, wait, Camus did NOT commit suicide. He died in a car accident. Funny, because he always said that the best death is the unexpected one.

If you are reffering to his philosohical views on suicide, you must be mistaken, he went against suicide by developing the philosophy or absurdism.

Anyway, I love Camus as well. I found his essay The Myth of Sysphis to be very moving. Though I find his best writing to be in his short stories and lyrical essays.

Yes, in The Fall, I know at the very least he portrays suicide in a less than flattering light, and rather is views are intended to be quite sardonic upon the subject. The things he talks about within the work are not values that he is be any means encouraging, or suporting.

He simply speaks the very plain and simple truth about the state of man kind but he does so with venom in his words.

The I apologize for being VERY misinformed about Camus death. The issue is a bit personal to me so I believe I avoided KNOWING more--probably disliking The Stranger hadn't helped either.
