As i mentioned in my last blog entry, The green Party have been giving the two enviorment based ministries. I also mentioned that one of their priorities was to stop the M3 construction from going through the Screen valley beside the Hill Of Tara.
Before the old Minister for the enviorment finished up yesterday, as John Gormley the new misister would start today, Dick Roche went and signed off the documents to say the road could go a head.
He denies that he did this purposely, and that he had thought he'd return to office there. His next excuse was that, he didnt want to drop the weight of the issue on to the new minister so he signed it off to ease the pressure, knowning quite well that the one thing the new minister would NOT want was the bill to be signed! And now John Gormley, on his first day of office, had no choice but to say there was no longer anything he could do. I think that is the most spiteful thing i have heard of anyone doing recently.
This has angered me as the Valley and Tara are two of the most important Archaeological landscapes in this country. I only hope that John Gormley can find someway around the situation and save the land from the same fate as Carrickmines Castle, the remains of which were excavated and removed so that the M50 could continue on its proposed route.
