Halls of the Dark Muse

Heart of Stone

Heart of Stone

Distant black
eyes watch
from this tower
of ice erected
around myself.

Always cold
within my soul
in a land where the
sun never shines.

For if warmth
ever penetrated
and the walls began
to thaw, than I would
drown within its
aftermath.

So I revolve
with the moon
traversing from one
side of the world
to the next.

To live forever
in its shadow
and never unmask
the dawn.

From my tower of ice
I watch the world
pass, unaffected
all tears freeze here
and resolution thickens.

Ice when condescend
becomes shatter proof
so this frozen fortress
impenetrable.

Echoes ring down
my corridors but
always ever from
afar.

So I sit upon my throne
and like wishes
toss sorrows up
into the stars.

Your poem reminded me of this great Stones classic:

You might want to compare your lines with the lines of the song.

I will have to check that out.
