The Shadow

The Shadow

Illusion eludes me
staring into the mirror
I know you are lurking there
but search as I may
you escape my sight
and still whisper in my ear.

Eclipsed reason
we all bare the dark side
of the moon.

Tendrils wrapped around my soul
I cannot deny this other half
stirring behind my eyes
hidden from a strangers gaze
it follows me around every corner
when the days grow dark it grows stronger
I hear the voice no longer a whisper
drawing out my natural impulses.

Eclipsed reason
we all bare the dark side
of the moon.

There is no parting
from this shadow
so I must find some harmony
to reconcile these halves
of myself residing in conflict
each struggling to grasp control.

Eclipsed reason
we all bare the dark side
of the moon.

For one wild egocentric moment I thought maybe my love of The Shadow pulp hero had sparked someone to try to read one now that are a steady flow of reprints. To be recognized by DM in this manner would be most gratifying to my pride. Instead the usual good poem from my favorite poet here that I THINK I understand--just a little. The refrain sets a mood. I liked this one.
