day in a life

Every now and then there are discussions here on the lit-net about song lyrics. I have always thought of most songwriters as poets in a way they just express their poetry in a different way from 'normal' poets. Will Oldham is one of my favourite songwriter and the title today is the name of one of his songs here is a small part of it:

Will you miss me when I burn
And will you eye me with a longing?
It is longing that I feel
To be missed or to be real

I find this so sad and so beautiful and true. these are feelings so many have me included, maybe that is why I like it so much. he writes very sad songs about being lonely and in love. but what I also love about him is that he can be a bit of a brute, or a pig even in a sense that he often prefers to women in a demeaning way like this part here:

And you can see it in her eyes
She was born unwise
She was born for me
And she morns too long
I'll know something is wrong
And I'll leave her be

a few more lyrics from him that are about women being cruel or cheating, in one he talks about a girl and whenever he wants to ask her to go away with him she says 'wait another day' . but there is still so much sadness in his songs like the lyric above, she was born unwise but she was born for me he says like he dosen't deserve better than a unwise woman... the cd I'm listening to right now is 'greatest palace music' apparently people wanted him to do a greatest hits cd but instead he took a few songs and went to Nashville, hired a few players and singers and arranged the songs again so they are in a country tune, a pretty good idea I think even though I'm not a big fan of country music, I like this kind... His work can be found under his real name Will Oldham, Palace music, Palace brothers and Bonnie Prince Billie, that's the names I know he uses but maybe there are others, apparently he dosen't want to be famous.

I just wanted to talk about something else for once and I just love this artist so I wanted to share this with those who are interested.
