The Last Days of the Wonder Lizard

The ever entertaining and unpredictable adventures of my lizard, who had come to be something of a mini celebrity on my blog have come to an unfortunate end.
He had taken to the habit of burrowing himself under his water dish to sleep, he started doing it when it was really hot and we were having heat spells over here, because it was cool under there, but then I guess he decided that he liked it and continued to do it after the weather cooled off. It was not uncommon for him to sometimes burrow himself in and stay there all day, so all day yesterday he had spent under there.
When I got up this morning I saw that he still hadn't moved at all, because part of his tail had been sticking out of the end, and it was still in the same place, and that seemed to be a bit unusual, so I lifted the water dish and it appears that when he had tried to burrow himself under it yesterday it collapsed on top of him.
So he had one last adventure in my attempts of disposing of the body in a way that were less then graceful and do not come recommended, but then I have always been one to appreciate comedy in tragedy, and his personality being what it was, I think he would find it all quite amusing. I did have the best interests in mind, but well things went somewhat awry.
It is not part of my spirituality to put much significance upon the shell of the body after the spirit has departed but for sentimental reasons, I didn't want to just throw the lizard in the trash, besides I do think that when an animal dies they should be returned back to nature to either once more become a part of the earth, or through their death help sustain the life of another creature.
My first thought was to burry the lizard, but most of the backyard is rock, and the part that is dirt, is really crappy dirt, and used often by the cats, so I couldn't find a good place in which to burry him.
As it turns out the house next to me is currently vacant, there is no one living there at the moment, so I thought I could just sort of toss the lizard over into the backyard next door where it could decay in peace, or be eaten by a critter, thus contribute to the cycle and balance of life.
But as I go to chuck the lizard over the fence, it of course ends up landing upon the next door shed which was close to the fence, so I figured well maybe a bird can come along and get it, and well nothing I can do about it now.
