Halls of the Dark Muse

Well one would think I would have learned my lesson after this morning attempt at improvised cooking, but no such luck I fear.

I was getting ready to make dinner, at least something of which I am fairly competent with, because I have made it before and it comes with easy to follow directions telling me what to do. And I found in the closet some corn muffin mix, and it sounded pretty simple and easy to do so I thought that would go well with dinner.

I get out the mixing bowl and dump the package of mix inside when I realize that more than half of it had already been used for something else and so there was not really enough left to use to make the muffins, but I already dumped it out in the bowl. Of course the thought of just putting it back in the package and forgetting about it never crossed my mind.

Instead I decided I would try and find some way to make it work. First I scour the closet to see if there was any more by chance, but there wasn't, but I found a box of corn meal and it had a similar recipe on it, just a bit more complicated cause with the corn meal you would have to make the corn bread all from scratch.

But I got the idea in my head, I could just add some more corn meal with some extra flower to the corn muffin mix (cause I figured that is probably mostly what was in the mix anyway).

So I mix all together and put it in the oven to back, and well it did not turn out a complete disaster, but well the muffins were hard and crumbly and a bit bland.

The ironic thing though is that I usually never use butter on corn bread, I always thought it was strange when my mother would put butter on her corn bread and my mother and sister think I am strange for thinking it strange to use butter on corn bread, but I ended up having to butter my own attempts in order to give it a bit more flavor.

And now the kitchen is a complete mess, because I never feel like dealing with it after I finish eating. Usually I do it the next morning, but tomorrow morning I probably won't have time to clean the kitchen. So it is probably going to get done either late tonight, or tomorrow afternoon/evening depending on when I get home, or maybe if I don't feel like dealing with it after tomorrow, Tuesday morning.
