Cooking Nightmares

First of all I don't cook! And though I am not exactly very "domestic" as it were. When it comes to cooking it is not out of any particular protest or dislike, I actually wouldn't mind it because I do love food. The problem is I am a disaster at it.

Half the time I don't know what I am doing, and I try to just make it up as I go along, but to say the least I find that rarely actually works out very well.

I told my boyfriend, after he teaches me how to cook, than I won't mind doing the cooking, but he will have to do the cleaning. I hate cleaning!

So anyway I had these frozen cinnamon rolls and so I thought I would back some for breakfast, and there were some instructions, but I had no idea where they were so again I thought, well I will just figure it out. So first I think you were suppose to wait for the dough to rise before putting them in the oven, something I have never really done before, and I had no idea, how you are were suppose to get it rise, or how long it takes, or how you can tell if it raised, but I thought I would wing it.

After about an hour I decided they looked good enough, and so I put them in the oven, and again had no idea who long to bake them for, so I figured I would just make it up and I could periodically check on them.

And at one point when I went to check on them, at first I thought I had overdone them because one of them had completely fallen apart, so I took them out, and it turned out they were still undercooked because they were cold and doughy, so I put them back in again for a while and when I took them out after that, at first I thought they were overcooked.

The outside of them were all crispy and crunchy, but then when I kept eating, they got doughier on the inside, and the centers were just this gross raw gooey dough mess.

So I have no idea what happened there. Probably didn't let them rise properly before attempting to cook them.

did you have them on a high temp? Were they properly defrosted? I've had many culinary disasters... Have you thought of doing cookery classes?

I think it was on a high temp, not sure if they were defrosted enough. But they weren't covered in ice at least.

hehehe by the sounds of it they should have been completely defrosted and put on a medium heat so that they would cook right through.

I don't cook either, Dark Muse. According to my kids, I heat, and it is the truth. Cooking, I think, is complicated and boring. I mean, I like good food as much as the next person, but if the recipe isn't marked 'easy' I will not even consider it.

I do cook, but dislike it and only cook the minimum to put a decent meal together. I think the rolls probably were frozen. Been there and done that, next stop bakery please.

Maybe I will be brave and try them again.....hmm maybe I can take them out the freezer tonight and put them in the firdge and see if it works better tomorrow morning.
