Exiled in a kilt

What is going on with Halloween nowadays? I remember when I was a lad in order to get anything you had to do a "turn" (sing a song, tell a joke, do a dance etc) and even then all you got was a handful of monkey nuts and maybe if you were lucky a penny sweety (out of interest can you still buy sweets for a penny nowadays?)

This halloween was the first year I was really in my own place (apartment building) so I had all these kids show up at the door, and I tried to get them to do a "turn", they all refused.....lazy blighters. Also I found out, that I aint supposed to give nuts out - something about allergies and dying and the like - so I had to buy other sweets and now I'm stuck with this big bag of nuts (Which I hate) and got no enjoyment from watching kids make fools of themselves. What a rip........
