What other people think

I heard this from a woman on the radio, and she said she got it from Flowers for Algernon and well It pretty much sums up my own personal philosophy.

What other people think of me is none of my business

Well, it certainly saves a lot of aggravation by not knowing.

Haha, though even when I do know, I am not inclined to care which is why it really matters not if I know or don't

This is what I say to that statement - who cares what anyone thinks of me. I have to live with myself, not them.

Absolutely agree with the both of you. It has never bothered me either.

I tend to be all about me so I judge myself by the quality of my audience. Yes we are aware of how vain and shallow thta is--which is why I'm amazed God takes an interest.

I like that, but living by it is surprisingly difficult, despite the logic

    I am not sure.

I think it is our responsibility how we project ourselves. It does not mean we need to conform to others' expectations all the time but still we are behaving in a certain way, then it is, to a certain degree, our "problem" how others interpret this.

That does not mean we need to lose sleep over what others think of us but still we cannot shake off the responsibility of it either.

When I realise that someone is hurt by something I have said or done, I take the time to consider whether I should or could have done things differently. I can almost never shrug and say it is their problem.

I think putting myself under the microscope should be my first responsibility; I am responsible from my own actions.

What a thoughtful and mature statement Scher. Kudos. There is apparently a balance that must be struck.

Perhaps that is true, but as a misanthrope, I really am not in the least concerned how others perceive and I feel no true responsibility to the general public.

As for as I am concerned it someone else is going to be offended by something I say, it is their problem not mine.
