The Nation of the Glorious Turnip

Internet trivialities.

I find that for some reason, in the last year or so the whole Internet has become increasingly boring to me, except perhaps for wikipedia and the occasional webcomic. It's also good for news, and research, but that's about it.

So I figured I should perhaps get more into all the 'new' stuff that's popping up, like micro blogging. I took a look at twitter, and frankly that's even more boring than normal internet interactivity. All I see is trite along these lines:

"I went to the loo and OMG, NO TOILET PAPER!"

So I passed that by and went to tumblr.com, which was very easy and fast to sign up and I've been on that site for about a week, mostly posting old stuff myself to see what happens, which isn't much of anything. I find it is overwhelmingly filled with teenage angst, whiners heartache and the sorts. I might hang around there for the few things I do find interesting, but most of it is just utterly uninteresting.

Then there are the blogging sites like livejournal and word press and the sort, which I am sure can be interesting to people that have to share every little detail of their lives, but frankly, I don't care about their lives that much. So I gave that up fast too. It is as if the entire Internets is being flooded by the boring masses, and unlike me who knows his life isn't that interesting, they persists in polluting the Web with their trivialities. Don't get me wrong, I am not against people doing this, but they should be put in a special category, so I can ignore them in my search for something that is interesting. It's like trying to find a microscopic needle in a haystack the size of a small galaxy. I have Facebook so I can connect and stay in touch with friends that I've made worldwide and that's great. The occasional quiz if I have nothing better to do is also nice, but why do I keep getting friend requests from people I never even heard of? Bugger them.

What I like about the Lit-net is that it is a place where people with a common interest can come together and form a community, even so, interests shift, and even though I still read, and on occasion write some stuff myself, I get bored here too. So, I will draw a preliminary conclusion and say that for me, the Internet simply has become a uninteresting place to be, with too much angst and trite. Not that'll turn my back on it entirely, RL isn't always that interesting either, but at least with RL, it is easier to find the needle I am searching for, since it tends to be a little more organized.

Great blog Aimus. I share your thoughts here. Twitter seems idiotic and you're example was so funny! For me there are two sites, this and a political one, both specialty. And the key I believe is building friendships with the people on the site. Obviously there is the common interest of the site and the interpersonal exchanges one has. People keep inviting me to Facebook but i keep resisting. I don't think I would like it.

I don't get twitter either. Or facebook. It is all so impersonal at the end of the day.

You might have a future as a writer of humor. The idea of a 'Nation of the Glorious Turnip' is amusing, and I suspect there is more where that comes from.
