The Great Escape

Fist of all let me say that my lizard is a star athlete, his jumping abilities and his gymnastics are both Olympic quality, and in addition he is also quite clever. Somehow or other he knows when I am getting ready to feed him and he is not one to let such an opportunity just slip by without being taken advantage of, though I do not know if it is just the weather or what but as of late it seems as if he has been most unusually frisky and keeping me on my toes.
So this morning I happen to notice that he seemed most particularly alert and attentive which immediately had me alarmed and on the look out, I could see, he was planning something big. He waited out his moment, as I opened up the lid of his terrarium and then when both my hands were occupied with dumping the crickets inside, he made his move, now we have played this little game before, while I appear busy, he makes a jump for it, and catches the ledge of the cage and then I brush him back down inside, but this time, he somehow managed to get the jump on me both literally and figuratively. He leapt, I caught the movement out of the corner of my eye and went in for the block and in a flurry of chaos and panic, before I knew it the lizard was on the floor (and have I added speed among his athletic talents).
I drop the bag of crickets with no other thought in the world and make my lunge for the lizard, I manage to catch him just by the tail, and we are at a deadlock, I cannot risk letting him go, but I don't want to hurt him, I make the attempt to readjust my hand and get a better hold of him, and he manages to slip away and takes off through the kitchen under the table. Now he is a decent sized lizard, but small enough that there are numerous amounts of places he could manage to get himself where any hope of recovery would be lost. Luckily enough he was both so stunned by the fact that he had at long last achieved his goal, and confused as to where he was, he took a moment to try and gain his bearings, and was not quite sure what to do next.
In his reprieve he was able to be safely recaptured and returned.
