How do I know that I know?

Rate this Entry
I was looking over my blog and noticed that when I title it something like coffee and a serial killer or mention the swine flu I got a lot more views than when I mention flowers and rocks. What is in a title... you check out books that have an interesting title (I bought Death can be beautiful for that reason) you read articles with catchy headlines but it dosen't always tell you what you need to know or what you are about to read. the title I used today is of my sociology book, I thought it was a good title but I don't know what the book teaches exactly, sociology but that's about it....
I'm talking about this because I've been wonder what to title my serial killer story and what his name should be, I started with Jack but figured that was to much like Jack the ripper since my killer uses a knife in some cases, a killer needs a good name and I'm not good in that department. I always use names like Jack, John, Daniel, Mary and Alice... maybe I should check out a baby's name book.......

I'm gonna go tomorrow and buy books for school, unfortunately I found out today that not all the classes I signed up for will be taught so I had to change my plan a bit today, but I'm on track so it'll be OK as long as I can take the classes next semester the won't be taught now...

You didn't catch me with the title, today at least, but with the opener.

You can have two names: one that is his legal name and the other that is given to him by the press. The press always use a pun of some sort. If your lead detective give it to him, then that can be an opportunity to give a little exposition on the detective, because he derive a name from something he's familiar with. If you're doing it as a period piece then you can figure out a name by birthplace and the popularity of the name during the killers year of birth. This is an example of a site that provides that information:

As an engineer, I probably ask myself that ("How do I know that I know?") at least once a week. You can almost say my job depends on answering that question as data comes in.
