Cell Phone Blues

Rate this Entry
So I suck at answering the phone, because I forget how answering the phone is suppose to work, because I generally never do it, and I have this idea in my head somehow that if it is my cell phone, people I do not know should not be able to call, sense the number is not listed anywhere, not in the phone book. But I still keep getting wrong number calls which annoys me.

When I hear my cell ring I instinctually presume it is someone I know and then when I don't recognize the number I get all flustered by the intrusion into my privacy and at being bothered by some unknown persons, so when I do answer the phone, I have it in my head the I know already it is no someone I want to talk to, so I kind of forget that I am supposed to say hello first and just sit there and wait for them to speak, and when they don't say anything I get annoyed at having my time and minutes wasted and so I just hang up.

So for now on, my new rule is going to be, if I do not recognize the number calling me, I am just going to hit ignore so I don't have to deal with it, or them.

Dark Muse, you have an elaborate scam to avoid the cell intrusion. Good for you.

Not sure if you see it that way, but I can relate to the irritation from the phone.
No doubt, the cell phone drives me crazy too. I usually check it every 2 days or loose it and then I don't have to deal with it. I tell people to contact me through email.

One of the only reasons I have a cell phone is becasue I am in a long distance relationship. Litteraly only 3 people have my cell number, and it usually is only on when I am using it

That's a good reason to have a phone!

I have a love/hate relationship with cell phones. I too won't answer if I don't recognize a number or if (on a whim or to relieve boredom) I do answer it's with an attitude and a great willingness to hang up without notice. My real ocmpliant with cp is the illusion that when you call someone they will answer every time because it's so easy to have one on you -afterall why othe otherwise. Alas--far from being the case.

Haha, I am one of those people LOL. Though some people might think it defeats the whole purpose, I rarely acutally take my phone with me when I leave the house. It generally stays behind on the rare occasion I do go out for anything. Usualy the only time my phone travels with me, is when I am going to acutally be out of town, and that is so I can text or call my dearly beloved, and he can get in touch with me, when I am away.

Umm answering with a very chirpy YELLO! or snapping SPEAK! when you answer the phone, genrelly seems to weed out the people you dont want to talk to , they hardly ever ring back

Mostly I really hate my cell phone. I just about never go anywhere and it seems I should be able to get groceries and go to worship without somebody calling. On the other hand I sometimes think about getting rid of my land line and just having a cell. The truth there are only a handful of people I want to talk to. For the most part I just don't answer. They can leave a message which I only check about once a month.

M-H: I know quite a few people that have ditched their land line and only use their cell phone.

Now that I think about it, I get more junk calls than people I actually want to talk to.

Sometimes when my land line rings and they ask for me and I don't recognize their voice I'll say "she's not available" and hang up.
