I am pleased to announce that we are finally done with gathering our dossier paperwork. I plan on getting all the documents notarized this week and sending them to our adoption agency for review. If all ok I can then get them apostilled and send back to agency for submittal to Embassy.

On the nursery homefront I finally finished taking off the wallpaper. Now I have to wipe down the walls to get any remaining glue off and then do some spackling. Since dear old hubby doesn't do electrical work (he could if he wants to) he has to call his Uncle to come over and install a ceiling fan/light fixture. This has to be done before we can prime and paint the walls. Next will be deciding on the type of floor to put down. I previously mentioned that I was leaning towards laminate flooring but my husband is now thinking about hardwood. I'll have to price both ways and then decide.
By end of August I'll start looking at baby furniture. I pretty much know what I want, I just have to shop around for the best deal.

I also started a baby registry. I only selected items I know I need without knowing the age and sex of the child, ie: healthcare/grooming products, crib sheets, protective covers and such for appliances and some other little things.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a baby monitor? I want one that can give me long range in case I am in my back yard when child is sleeping.

Well, that's all I have for now.

Yeah!!!! I'm so glad that you are getting there:) Enjoy doing the nursery. I loved decorating the kids rooms. Hmmm, for flooring I would have to say laminate. Hardwood is normally going to look way nicer, but I would think laminate is going to tolerate the wear and tear a child will put on it better. As for a baby monitor, I know they have all the nifty ones now that allow you to talk back through them and such, but really the $30 model I bought at Target has worked fine. I think it may be their store brand one. I've used it thorough two kids, over six years now, and I've had it on nearly all day every day the entire time. The range is pretty good too, and it did well with the interference of a navy base, so if there are any neighboring airports you should be good there. Much Love, Meg

So glad to hear that! Now, fingers crossed you don't have to re-do any paperwork.

I am so happy for you. I never used a monitor, so I'm no help. I was advised by a wise old woman to sleep when the baby sleeps and boy I did! I needed it. If I didn't sleep I did homework and wasn't too far away. Again, I'm so, so happy for you. You're so much closer now! You worked so hard on that and I'm really proud of you.

Baby monitor? Where can a baby go if he's inside a crib? What if the baby decides to moon the camera?

Hey Virg! last time i checked a baby monitor was something you could listen to the baby through to hear if it was crying...If the baby decides to do a mooner, you aint gonna know.
But being america, i wouldnt be surprised if a computer screen baby monitor to see and hear existed...

I thought they were called nanny cams, ( the ones with the video that is) anyway CONGRATS!!!!

How about amazon vouchers/ library cards for baby books.
Oh and join baby to the library so they can do things like book crawl ( what ever the american equivlent is).

Oh and pushchairs.... get a backwards facing one , that is facing you, I rember a study form when I did child congtive psychlolgy, but children in prams where they faced mummy/daddy/ pusher person develop people type skills better because they learn to read facial expressions.

Niamh they actually do have video monitors where you can watch the child while you're in another room.

Nightie: the library is a definite.

Hmm, I'd recommend you don't get a baby monitor with a sensor mat in it to alert you in the event that the baby stops breathing. Sounds like a great idea but in practice it's a really good way to send Mum and Dad well on their way to a collective heart attack. Not recommended.

I wouldn't be too fond of a hardwood or laminate floor either. Very practical but also very slippy and hard when you fall on it. All that baby drool goes somewhere you know (under the slippers ). Also very noisy.

But I guess the most important thing is to just do what you think is the right thing and don't stress too much about it. Baby isn't going to care about decor or its pram or the type of floor in its room or any of that stuff. And you're ready anyway, well you sound as ready as any parent-to-be ever is.

Wishing you the best of luck, Fifth
