Productive Summer

Rate this Entry
We've been in this house for going on five years and it's not finished yet. We have accomplished so much this summer that the end seems to be in sight. It started off as a 700 sq ft one bedroom farmhouse. We added one large living room, two baths, three bedrooms, and a full basement. None of the trim work is done in any room, but I can do small things like that during the semester, I can't do a big project when school is on. We are trying to knock out some big projects while we can.

We built a tree house and several swings to go with it. This is a masterpiece of a tree house! We moved into our new living room. This frees up the old living room to be made over into a dining room.
I laid brick around the wood stove using some salvaged bricks and it looks so great. We pulled up the carpet and found some beautiful hardwood floors underneath. Sadly, there is a patch that prevents us from refinishing the floor in there at this time. We also removed all of the trim and I'm going to paint today and we will put the floor down tomorrow. Once that is done we'll move all the office into the dining room and and pull up this carpet. I think I'll be able to go with the original floor in here, but I won't know until the carpet is all up.

I've also managed to go through and organize the kids bedrooms, kitchen, laundry room, and “scary” room (where my water heater is). This has been a huge undertaking! Every drawer, cabinet, closet, and cubbyhole is clean!

I'm so happy with the progress we've made this summer! My list for what I want to accomplish is getting shorter and shorter. I think our house will be done by the time I graduate!

That is great news! It sounds like you are going to have a beautiful place when it is all finished. Even better, it is so nice to see your list of things going down instead of growing:)

Sounds like a busy summer. I know that I love the physical projects that summer allows a teaching professional. The alternating pattern of different sorts of work refreshes mind, body, and spirit!

Holy smoke. I admire self sufficieny like that. I think that doing all that on your own is incredible. You are a working machine.

Sounds like you've been super-busy Motherh. There's something immensely gratifying about reaping the rewards of your own hard work, you must be proud of what you've achieved.

Of course, you could post photies
