Painting Again

Finally I have started to paint again, previously for sometime now I have been unable to do so. First because during the time I was in school I did not have any time to paint, and then once I was out of school for the summer (I never take summer classes) I had lost the room that more or less served as my studio as it were, so I had no space in which to paint. The family room dubbed "My Office" because I am really the only one who uses this room and spend most my time here, formally had virtually no furniture within it but a chair for the computer desk, other than that it was for the most part a big empty room. Perfect place to set up my easily, particularly since all it had on the floor was an old grungy carpet so if there should be some mishap it would not be tragic. But there were some disadvantages to this arrangement. For the computer chair was not much comfortable or useful for anything beyond using it to sit at the computer. It was not really good for just sitting and watching TV or for reading, so to do such I had to seek refuge elsewhere.
As of recent a couch has now been added to my room, which has been quite convenient in a lot of ways, but means now, no more easel and there really wasn't anywhere else I could move it to, so I had to take it down and put it up, while I tried to figure out what to do about the situation.
Recently I decided to start working outside, and particularly since the project I am working now is not an actual canvas, it is a shield I made out of wood, and am now painting, it does not really require the use of the easel, I just lay it down upon the patio table to work on it. So I just began work on it for today and worked on it for about an hour.
It is also the first time in which I am painting completely free style, usually I always draw in a sketch with pencil, on the canvas or whatever other medium I am using and paint over that, but I wanted to get out of that habit, so I have a sketch on paper that I use as a reference, but on the wood itself I am applying the paint directly. And I never used wood as an actually art medium before, I have painted wooden furniture, but never worked with it artistically, so I was not sure how the wood would take to the paint, but so far it is holding well and looking good.
