The title of this blog is not meant to be sarcastic but happy.
Let me backtrack a little. I decided to see a new doctor for my diabetes back in January. This new doctor is an Endocronologist who specializes in treating diabetes. I wasn't able to get an appointment until early April. I went to see her and I liked her very much. She was patient and answered every question I asked her. I also told her that I would like to switch back to the medication I was initially prescribed for my diabetes becuase it was much cheaper, plus I felt it also helped me loose weight. During her exam she felt my neck and didn't like the way something felt so she wanted me to have a thyroid sonogram. She told me most likely it is nothing or it can be cancer which it probably isn't. I came home and made the appointment for the sonogram. Results came in a week later and she wanted me to have a needle aspiration done to rule out cancer since I do have some growths on my thyroid.
Now I am freaking out somewhat. I was freaking out because #1 it may be cancer, #2 having to have a needle stuck in my neck, #3 my mother was leaving on vacation and I didn't want to ruin her trip and #4 the biggest concern of mine was that I hope it doesn't get in the way of our adoption.
I had the procedure done on 5/22. My husband went with me and even came into the room with me. I told the doctor I am nervous about the needle. He just laughed at me.
I couldn't even bring myself to look at the needle so I have no idea how big it was. He took another sonogram so he knew where to insert the needle. The needle was inserted twice into my thyroid and to be honest it really didn't hurt. All I felt were 2 tiny pinches and a little bit of pressure. The whole procedure took about 15 minutes. After he was done he told us to wait in another room while he looked at the slides. I go to the bathroom and while I was in there he told my husband that it is not cancer. YIPPEEEE!!!!!!!!! I do however have a few growths on my thyroid that need to be monitored every so often. Surprisingly, about 75% of women have these growths on their thyroid nodules and most often go undetected.
Fast forward to today. With my new medication my blood glucose levels have gone back down to where they were after I was diagnosed and I have started loosing weight again.
Can life get any better!!!!!
