Ghosts from the Past

It's strange, the number of ex-boyfriends that seek me out after years. Why do they do it?

We'll start with the most recent:

1. Danny, my ex-fiancee from college, emailed me a day or two ago. It was good in that I finally got to apologize for breaking his heart and hurting him the way I did. He's happily married with a great career, though, so I'm not sure why he sought me out. He said he's thought alot about me over the years and had several questions regarding our relationship. I didn't mind answering them, but I'm still confused as to why one would resurrect the dead if one is happy in one's life. I might have fleeting thoughts of ex's, but the only man I think of with any great passion is Anthony.

2. Todd. We had a love-hate relationship that was violent. He called me up years later to tell me he had never loved anyone as much as he had loved me. I guess (at the time) he just couldn't be faithful or peaceful (but I was an alcoholic then, so I wasn't innocent.)

3. James, my son's father. He sought me out for Jordan's sake, but then proceeded to declare how much he loved me, and how good I was to him and how he wants me back.

4. Ron, one of the mega-loves of my life. He sought me out to see what I was doing, how I was, etc. This is miraculous in itself, seeing that Ron doesn't look up ex-girlfriends: they look him up. He's sort of reclusive like me.

Strange.

For me it's a sense of unfinished business or path not followed thru and a sense I could have done things so much better if I had just done a Columbo and asked one more question of kept the hormones where they belonged. Wow -- we have both of us been busy in our lives. Like to think some good has come of it. Your son being the best thing of all I'm sure and my three guttersnipes of course.

You must have made a difference in their lives for them to seek you out now. That can't be bad, can it?

truthfully Bloom didn't quite match up to my expectations as Legolas. Elves are supposed to be fair, yes, but I wasn't expecting pretty

You pose the question -- "Why do they do it?" -- and this is really true, why DO they? I think that each has never really gotten over you, Countess. You must be one very special person.
