Really? Are you serious?

Rate this Entry
So, this morning I got up a little late, not real anxious to find out if I have to go work. (I'm doing a bit of landscape maintenance for a few weeks until I head back up into the mountains)
(BTW- I hate landscaping like mice hate mousetraps)
ANYWAY- i got up and was a little depressed, but kind of happy to find it snraining. I am tired of precipitation and mud, but it means I don't have to work today. So, I decided to clean up my room a bit. (my clean clothes tend to lay on the floor until they are A) picked up off the floor, put on, gotten dirty and in the laundry basket again, or B) put in the closet where they belong.) So, I am putting my last shirt on a hanger and lifting it up to the top hanger-bar thingy, (it happened to be my Cherokee Park Ranch staff shirt) and as I am hooking the hook thing on the bar, I feel this horrendous 'POP!' from the bottom of my neck down to below and behind my shoulder blade, and my arm went limp. I quickly found that I cannot move my arm at all, I can't turn my head much more than a few degrees each way, and my back/shoulder hurts like hell.
Really? Putting a shirt away, and I am knocked out of commission for the day. I have carried railroad ties on the same shoulder that weighed more than I do. Yesterday I was dragging two 5 gallon buckets full of pea gravel up and down the stairs several times. But this . . . this shirt . . . kicked my ***. I feel pathetic. Why can't it be something that might actually hurt someone, like getting kicked in the shoulder by a Clydesdale, or something akin to that? Even lifting up a jug of milk or punching a hole in a wall would be a more dignified injury. Oh well. Humility comes in whatever form it comes.

I have to admit I have never heard this happen to anyone hanging up a shirt.

    It's very humiliating.

It's probably just an accumulation of previous activities.

something about a straw and the back of a camel.

eek. I'm with Aims on this one.
it was probably a collective thing and it was ready to pop. you probably just turned it a bit odd as you stretched up.

I slipped a disc taking out the trash.

Aimus and Niamh- Yeah, yall are probably right . . . my mother is continually yelling at me to take better care of my body . . . and being the stubborn *** I am, I didn't listen. Only to get pwned by a shirt.

Wispy- Ow! I don't think I've ever done that before. How did you fix that?

well if its anything to you, i'm currently getting physiotherapy for tendonitis in my left arm and i have no idea what i did to cause it!

Ohh! I'm sorry! That is no fun- nerve pain sucks! I've only had it once (I pinched a nerve in my neck) and I couldn't move for two days. I hope your arm gets better!

I've had the problem for a couple of months now.

Rest up that shoulder of yours!

Get better Niamh! Skib, yea, get some rest! don't work it too hard.

As for the slipping disc part - let's just say it was a dark and stormy night and the trash was heavy because it full of spring cleaning results. In my clumsiness, I slipped in the wet grass and - well, it was all very epic, and kind of hilarious (I limped and laughed my way back inside.)

Basically, I rested for a good while. I can't quite remember how long exactly, but I was confined to laying on the couch for quite a few days. My friends baked me a cake.

Having a limp arm is fun, huh?

A couple years ago a riding injury ended up with me having all the nerves in my shoulder stretched, so I had no feeling in the whole arm for about three weeks. Best part was that it took a while for the feeling to actually go away in the first place, so by then I was already back on the horse. Whoops.

Just make it worthwhile, Skib- once you're feeling better, just show that shirt who's boss!

That sounds painful. Sorry to hear about it.

I have had crazy injuries all my life. But the most painful was when I was going down into a grande plie (if you know anything about dance, you know what that is ) and BOTH of my knees seemed to pop. I immediately stood up. It was so painful. I can still remember leaning against the kitchen sink and doing nothing but crying because I couldn't even climb the stairs to get to my bedroom. What was so bad is that it was both knees. Not just one. How was that possible? Eventually I went to the doctor and it was diagnosed as tendonitis. Every now and then it still hurts, but I am livinig with it. Not much else I can do.

Most recently I hurt my shoulder carrying a picture frame in from the car, and I hurt my ribs while singing!

Be sure to take care of it!

I take it laughing and pointing isn't the appropriate reaction?

Niamh and Wispy- Trust me, I haven't strayed far from my room except for more painkillers.

Wispy- I hope nobody laughed till after it was over! Nothing like insult to injury!

My most stunning Classic- Having a limp arm has got to be the most frustrating thing ever! (I've also noticed that horse people have the tendency to keep at things the doc says not to! )
And have no fear! That shirt will learn its place!

Ladywentworth- Wow! Has your insurance company found out about all those accidents yet?! That sounds awful- knees are quite necessary, I've found! I cracked a few ribs coughing once- that was quite an unenjoyable experience.

Becca- You can laugh as long and hard as you wish! I'm all doped up on painkillers, so I'll just laugh with you!

    Kev- you're an a**hole.

To everybody but kev- this is our typical banter, so nobody has to flag us as abusing each other.

Next time you introduce me to a pretty lady I'm gonna tell her that you nearly broke your arm lifting a shirt ok?

Oh, and today I thought that you could give Jill a call. She might give you some stretches and stuff to do.
  17. skib's Avatar
Well, my inability to introduce myself to pretty ladies might stand in the way of that.
And it was my BACK, not my arm.
Its okay- me madre and I just got done doing some of her exercises. Thanks though!

Man, that would hurt! Please be nice to your body.
Yes, sometimes people injure themselves the silliest ways. I remember I had a friend who was trying martial arts out for the first time. He managed to dislocate his arm- but nothing to do with any techniques...he just reached out behind his back to tie on a chest protector and pulled his shoulder out . Man. We had to stop, laughing, (actually he was too, but wincing too) and drove him to the after hours surgery, where big brawny men pulled on him.

My valiant Skib- Hey now! I got back on before I even saw the doc, so there!

Nah, what happened was, my horse went lame right before a show so I was riding a friend's horse to get used to her to show her instead, and she tried to stop dirty at a fence, so I yelled at her and she decided to jump it from a standstill, which I wasn't ready for. So once we got to the other side, I was no longer on her back. I'm used to my guy who stops dead when I come off so I didn't let go of the reins. This mare decided to make a break for it so she jerked her head to get loose, wrenching my arm in the wrong direction. I felt fine at first, so I got back on and nailed her before every jump to make sure she went over everything (stopping dirty is NOT allowed). It was only once we'd finished the course and watched a couple other people jump that I realized I had no feeling in my arm. Needless to say, I didn't show the next day- my horse and I gimped around together instead. We looked like quite a pair.

I do hope you're feeling better though!
