Invited Reader's Vogon Ode to the Marshes

Rate this Entry
Just a bit of fun that I also put on the Weird Poetry Thread. Inspired by a poetry reading I heard:

The Vogon fixed us to our seats
to take the words and make them greech
and dribble gluesome, like a toilet stench
which wandered grimly by the beach
to the sound of a ragged cowtooth moan.
Like cloggy marsh or faecal squelch
we felt it underneath our teeth,
and thought with every sodden breath
he'd made that room a place of death.
Yet screaming would not be polite,
since we had bid him come that night.

Extraordinary word-play! Of course the triumph is how you carry the rhymes off so nimbly without ever brutalizing the syntax in order to do so.

Thanks guys! Read Douglas Adams 'The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy', or watch the TV series based on it to find out what a Vogon is, specifically, but I'll just say they are a particularly ugly alien species, and their poetry is a terrible kind of torture to the ears.
