Last Set of Fingerprints Part II

Rate this Entry
In my last blog I had stated that my husband and I were scheduled to get our last set of fingerprints taken for our adoption. Well we went on Monday to have this done.
Our appointment was for 9 AM so we had to leave the house at 7 AM to catch the bus to the ferry. Luckily we didn't have to wait long for the bus and then made the 7:30 ferry. From the ferry we had to hop on a train for about 5 stops. Going by bus, ferry and train only cost us $8 total (going in) instead of going by express bus which would have cost us a total of $10 (one way). I know a $2 savings isn't much but coming home it only cost us a total of $4 (the train). The ferry is free and we had gotten free transfers on the bus from the train. If we had taken the express bus back that would have been another $10. So in total we saved $12 on transportation.

Once we got out of the train station it was pouring and we had about a 1/2 hour to kill so my hubby wanted to get something to eat. We found a little cafe across the street from where we had to go. Once my hubby's tummy was satisfied we went for our fingerprints. Upon entering the building I noticed we had to go thru a metal detector and take our jackets off and put my bag in a tray for it to go thru the x-ray machine. I felt I was at the airport. My husband went thru first and of course the machine went off. The guard then tells my husband to lift his arms out to the side as he swept the wand all over him. Turns out he had 2 pens in his shirt pocket. Me being the concerned wife just laughed. Now it was my turn. Lo and behold I set the machine off as well. My jewelry set the machine off. The machine was a sensitive little bugger because my jewelry never set off the alarm at an airport.

We finally find the room we have to go to and we were both expecting a long wait. The whole process took us maybe 15 minutes in total. I was shocked!!. All in all we spent roughly 2 hours of travel for a 15 minute process.

Now all we have to do is wait for our approval and we proceed to the next step which is preparing our dossier.

oh goodness! That's kind of...wacky; fifteen minutes for two hours. Anyways, all the best to you. What do you mean by "dossier?" I thought a dossier was a file agencies kept on criminals but...I can't quite work out how you'd be criminals .

Andave: now the secret is out, my husband and I are criminals .
Seriously, the dossier is a bunch of paperwork consisting of roughly 23 documents that we have to prepare and get notarized and appostilled for the embassy overseas. It is quite detailed.

That dossier thing sounds so complicated, PnB! But I am glad that things are coming along so well. It has been fun following the whole process here. I can't wait for that baby and all the pix and fun it will be for you!

It could have gone so differently. Instead of 15 minutes the agency coould have been out of ink or proper forms or the 'authorized' agent could have been out on sick leave or some such.
