went food shopping...

I know this is possibly a pointless enough blog but i dont care! I'm going to rant!

So i went food shopping today and I hate food shopping because a lot of what i need to buy costs more than the average food item. (stupid ibs!) The amount of food things i got had me expecting a rediculous bill. ( I live in rip off republic after all were food prices are rediculous!)
A lot of what i bought were brand items.
Heres my list;

two tins of Baxters Chicken and Leek Soup. (baxters is by far the best soup on the planet!)
Two packets of airwaves gum (no smoking thing..11 days and counting! )
2L bottle of Blackcurrant and apple cordial
six carton pack of strawberry milk. (big kid i know!)
4 pack of 1L apple juice
two bags of Honey Bite rice cakes
three packs of Dark chocolate Orange rice cakes
two courgettes
Mushrooms
Large tube of Rachel Allen organic Vanilla yogurt with live bio's
Large tube of Rachel Allen organic greek style honey yogurt with live bio's
triple pack of pringles (yeah...not very ibs friendly but one does need to munch! )
Quorn cheese Escalopes
Paul Rankin Chicken and Leek Pie
Twinings Everyday tea 80's bags
Punnet of Nectarines.
Peppermint tea (50 bags)
Sure spray

The bill only came to €37. I was gobsmacked. A few months ago a similar list would have cost me well over €55.

I went up to the clothes department before the food department and had bought two really cute short wide sleeved bolero type cardigans, two halterneck tops, two travel bags and a room spray all for €24.

At least some good comes out of a resession.

It's nice to know at least where you live you've seen a drop in prices at the grocery store cause I sure haven't where I live.
As far as shopping for clothes I have noticed that prices seem more reasonable now however what I am seeing in the stores for spring/summer I do not like.

yeah we have a lot of seriously manky looking clothes out. Some really nasty looking frilly things with horrid patterns. I like simple, somewhat classy or casual clothes, but you would never see me in any of that stuff.

Well all the food stores really needed to reduce prices as with the sterling and Euro being nearly on a Par its cheaper for people to drive up to the north of Ireland and shop there. this time last year it was 45% dearer to shop in a tesco in the republic than in the UK.

I need to go, but man I don't want to. Some of the things on the list sound so good.

Oh but they so are! I had the chicken and leek pie for dinner and it was amazing!

manky looking clothes? I like that word manky. I haven't heard that one here before - I'm going to start using that word. And yeah - I've seen some hideous fashions for sale here as well. Of course, we're probably two years behind everyone else as far as styles go, but they're still fugly.

    =O!

I love food... it's too expensive to get food here right now. Our food bill for two people for a week comes to about $130. Yuck.

I don't think I've ever seen Baxter's soups here. I've never heard of it or noticed them. I had to look up manky and it wasn't in M-W's. So I even doubted for a second that it existed. But then I did a full search and there it was, "inferior and worthless." What a cool word.

You can have apple juice with IBS? That is interesting to me.

The prices actually don't seem any different here at all. I went to do some Easter dinner shopping this afternoon. I decided to avoid all the people next week, but God, everywhere I went the stores were loaded! But I went to 3 different places to get what I need for dinner and dessert. I think I did a pretty good job, money wise. The one thing I noticed was how steak had gone up in price. I decided to make a beef stew along with ham (mainly becuase I don't like ham), and it cost around $10 for a little under 2.5 lbs of steak tips (a piece of steak was more). Meat is really the only thing that I have seen change.

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who finds the spring/summer clothes quite unattractive this year. I am tired of seeing all of these dresses and tops that look like maternity clothes. I just don't understand why someone would want to wear something that is cut in a way that would make them look pregnant while they aren't. But all clothes are pretty bad. I don't desperately need any clothes. So I can hold off on buying any of it.

Well, juice isnt really good, but apple is gentler than any other. I'll drink only a small amount of it. half glass after i've eaten.
