My rekindled love for the south

Rate this Entry
First off, I was born and raised in colorado. And I have never lived anywhere else for more than maybe a month. I LOVE colorado. I love the snow, I love the cold, I love the mountains, I love everything about this state. (except maybe the yuppies from california that move here, and the hippies in boulder.)
But I have another secret lover.... the south.
My first trip to the south was to Tennessee. I went fishing there with my dad (as I do every year). I fell in love. The beauty, the people, everthing. I was in a little po dunk town next to a lake. It was swampy and amazing. Cypress trees, swamp turtles that covered logs and banks, and cottonmouths that would fall into the boat if we made too much noise under a tree. Our guides name was Cletus (seriously) and he was awesome. He actually cared about giving us a good time and helped us out. Something you dont find much anymore. There were good 'ol boys everywhere you looked. I say again: I fell in love.
And to my great excitement, I am going back. Fishing with my dad again. Not to Tennessee, but to Arkansas. Not the same. But close. Instead of cottonmouths, they have alligators. Swamp turtles turn into snapping turtles. I cant wait. I'm leaving tommorrow morning. Early, I might add (4:00). Not exactly excited about the drive, but its worth it.

Anyway, I thought I would share this lover of mine.

(oh and I'll be leaving y'all for another couple of months in about 2 weeks. Due to my return to the ranch, but I'll make a formal goodbye later...)

You're LEAVING? awe, Kevin, NooOoo! What about our poem wars!?

I was born in the south, and there is something VERY appealing about it - however, I would looove to live farther north. But yes, yes, we are amazing people, and would you like another glass of sweet tea, honey? Gwahaha, I do it for a LIVING. Have a safe drive, Kevin!

Next time you're takin' a trip to Tennessee, hit me up! I'm down yonder in SC.

Sweet tea is the greatest thing ever invented by man. And you southerners know how to make it. That, and biscuts and gravy. I had that for breakfast every day in Tennessee.
And yes I am leaving. I have very limited access to the internet up there and won't have time to browse like I usually do. I will miss our super intense poetry wars!!!!!
Oh, and as far as coming to tennessee, I dont know when Im gonna go back, but I do know that sometime this year my friend (aka skib on litnet) and I might be going to NC to work on my aunts property. If we do, we'll let you wait on us and tip HUGE!!!!!!!

I love the south. But then I love all parts of the country. Actually I've loved all parts of the world I've been to. I just enjoy people and their distinctions.

Not with Bill Clinton I hope. You weren't an intern somewhere down there I hope.

I went to Tennessee once and I can well understand your love for that place. I can still smell the mornings, with the smoke from the mountains misting the morning air, and those southern breakfasts.... Seems everyone has a veranda swing, too. I loved that!
