Orphan Doctor Part 2

Rate this Entry
On Monday my husband and I travelled into the city for our second visit with the Orphan Doctor. We were going to find out which vaccinations we needed to get for our wonderful journey. My only concern was where the shots were going to be, in the booty or the arm.

When we arrived there was a couple who was in with the doctor so we had to wait. We were able to hear what the doctor was telling them and at one point we heard the word Kazakhstan. As soon as my husband heard that word his ears perked up and said to me quietly “did you hear that”? At that point the other woman waiting in the waiting area heard my husband and said to us that’s her daughter and son-in-law with the doctor. Her daughter had just come home Saturday with their new baby. We then struck up a conversation with the woman. She told us that they spent 6 weeks there and that they stayed in an apartment. The Adoption Agency that her daughter used was the same one Angelina Jolie used when they adopted one of their children from Ethiopia. We asked about the child and in typical grandmother fashion she started gushing about her grandson. We caught a glimpse of the baby who was about 6 – 7 months old with blonde hair and as cute as can be. My heart ached at this point. All I wanted to do was snatch that baby and run!!. From what we were told the baby was healthy but had some minor issues that are common with children raised in an orphanage and over time goes away. We were able to talk to the couple a little bit once they were done with the doctor. We told them congratulations on their forever child and then it was our turn to see the doctor.

We get into the room and the doctor turns to my husband and says “you need 4 shots and your wife needs 2”. I looked at my husband with a big KOOL- AID smile and laughed!! Thankfully the shots were in the arm. He got 2 in each arm while I got one in each arm. Two of the shots that we both received are a series of shots (Hepatitis A and B) so we have to go back next month for the second shot and in September for the last one. We will also need to get a tetanus shot. We made our appointment for next month and then left.

On a side note, I found out the other day that there may be a delay with our submission of our Dossier in May. The Embassy in Washington has made some changes to the Dossier process which at this point affects 3 couples ahead of us since theirs is completed. These couples will have to re-do some of their paperwork. We have not started ours yet so I am hoping we are still on target to submitting ours in May which will enable us to possibly travel in September.

To the people on Litnet who have been following our journey you are probably thinking “oh no, not another setback !” The only thing I can say is that it’s a part of the adoption process and you have to go with the flow. I’m slowly realizing that patience is a virtue!!

Till next time.

He got 2 in each arm
So your husband got four shots all right after the other? I bet they were big needles too. Wow, he must be really tough and very masculine.

Oh that paperwork can be a pain. Hope that is soon behind you. I hate needles, glad that this part of it will be done soon for both you and your husband. And your saying patience is a virtue? Very true, very true. You are the most patient person I've read about for making this dream a reality, no matter what the challenge.

When my poor little Brooke was tiny she got 4 shots at once; imagine that; it just killed me. She got two in each upper leg - ugh. My son said she cried for a few minutes and her mother cried for an hour! I hope your big 'tough and masculine' husband did not shed a tear; at least, it was in his arms. Why did you only need 2 and he needed 4? I am just curious.
Well, pussnboots, it sounds so hopeful. I am so happy for you and your hubby. How interesting that you should meet up with someone who's grand-baby was from the same region/country. That seemed to be an act of fate and something very encouraging, like a good omen. I am getting goosebumps, just thinking of you two getting a sweet little baby. I can't wait to see all those brag photos, and yes, being a grandma I certainly know all about gushing...I do enough of it myself. I can't wait to buy the baby a little outfit or something. I spend much time near or in baby departments these days and I can't resist. I just bought Brooke 3 things when I went to Target the other day. Your journey has been a long one but it is great that you documented it all on here to look back on in later days. I think all the entries have been so interesting. I hope you copy them to your own files; would be a nice thing to keep.
