How many killing fields will we sow before
we’re held accountable for the feast?

Speaking in tongues we defend our collective
amens, finger the mirror and pretend
we don’t read brail.

But if humanity withers by slight of hand,
and hate is ordained in the heart of man

while the earth shudders from rockets red glare
and Grace forsakes our children in prayer

will we be missed by anyone?

    A tribute to america perhaps?

I know it reads that way but it's not just about America (well a little bit it is). The U.S. is currently involved in Iraq and Afghanistan and always seems to be poised to go to war.

When I wrote the poem it was about all the wars that have been fought in the past and will be fought in the future. I guess the current wars influenced my writing and certainly the fear of a nuclear holocaust.

Oh, I hope not. I really want to believe that saner minds and humanity will prevail. But it's not looking promising so far.

    Thanks Kevin!!

'will we be missed by anyone?'

No... the universe will breathe a collective sigh of relief, seal up the dropped jar labelled 'Human Beings' and procede to clean up the mess.

I so hate to agree with you but, a big part of me does. God I hope we can clean up our own mess before they come for us. Thanks Becca!
