Cars, Bread & Run-away Dawgs...

Well, further to my previous Blog Entry, now it is time to repair the poor ol' Block Heater. Since I did the damage, it is only fair that I look into the "what are we going to do's".

I called Dealership-1 (of course we will remain anonymous, for obvious reasons). This gentleman will sell me the block heater cord for my car for a solid $11.00. If I want the nice man to install it for me, it will be $25.00 plus the cost of the cord, plus the usual taxes. Pleasant conversation, stuff to report back to hubby.

I called Dealership-2. A slang-talking young man will TRY to get me the cord, there is only one in all of Canada right now (wouldn't you know?!), in Montreal, and it will be sold to me for $60.00 if I wait 2-3 business days. They are going obsolete, didn't you know?! (hmmm, what is this guy eating for lunch? magic mushrooms?!). And when he transferred me to the shop where the job would be done, should I so desire, I let the line ring about fifteen times, and then it cut off. So I suppose I shan't be dealing with that particular bunch of people. But the $60.00 would steer anyone away, no?

So, the saga continues.

My dad called and asked me if I needed a lift anywhere today (sweetie, no, but thanks much!). And he asked if I wanted him to run by Canadian Tire (my husband's favorite store) to get a generic cord, that this problem could be mended with little difficulty. I appreciate his help and support, but if he gets involved, well, that would make my hubby feel a bit useless, you know? So I politely declined and told him he could c'mon over for coffee anyhow, car be danged.

On another note, I made an absolutely wicked loaf of bread in my breadmachine yesterday. I will have to print the recipe I use here, for anyone who has one of those contraptions. If you can load ingredients into a hopper and close the hopper door, in four hours (and no kneading) you can have the tantalizing aroma of fresh baked bread that you can hardly wait to slice. The bread I made was a Dill Parsley recipe. And it went really well with the homemade Vegetable Soup that is my signature recipe.

p.s. B-Mental, I miss ya! Rich, get well, ya hear? I am très worried about you! Cap'n Pike did you get some new digs? Thinking about you, too.

p.p.s. A run-away dog chased the mailman halfway down the road today. I had to go out and intervene, lest he lose a good portion of his snow-mobile suit (armour for this minus forty-something weather), or the dog get pelted by snowballs by the aforementioned individual ... **sigh** All in a day's work

Well, if it costs $37 plus tax, that's not too bad. I'm sure it's overpriced still, but it could be worse.

Mailmen around here don't take too kindly to dogs chasing them. I should use my bread maker more often. I would love to see your recipe.

I've been looking for my breadmaker for MONTHS, and my Mum just pointed out that it's on top of the freaking fridge. *face-palm*... d'oh.

Ohh I look forward to seeing the recipe! My mum uses a breadmaker, and she tended to find that the bread was rather soft, 'til one day I asked her to put honey in it (I love honey oat bread!) and it went really nice on the outside and was more cooked in the middle . It's coming into winter soon (well autumn from next month) and so it'll be great to try it!

So why don't you just save about 40 and have oyur father take care of the block heater. Your hubby might feel slightly put out, but you could give him half of the money you saved.

ok, ok, ok...had to go back an entry to catch up. I'm always fussing at my wife for uplugging appliances by pulling on the cord. She does it all the time and what happened to you never happens...Spend the $36...save the car...it wasn't its fault now was it?...was it??...ok...your car hates you when you wake up in the middle of the night and it's standing at the end of the bed with an ax...you go apologize...or just maybe...

Awwww, you guys are all GREAT!!

As it turns out, my husband bought the generic cord and within fifteen minutes, the block heater has a new cord. I guess he is due a very nice dinner.... I'll see what I can come up with tomorrow....

p.s. My dad came over for early morning coffee and asked if he could help with that cord (that is just how he rolls). But since the cord situation was under, er, control; we stuck to enjoying toasted dill bread fresh from the bread machine, and some real strong coffee....
