This month we have selected two poems from The Personal Poetry Forum, posted during the month of January, to feature in the Litnet Monthly News! I hope you like them too!
Rambling in the Dark by Silas Thorne

Tongues of sharp-winged sadness take me.
Unkempt, unsandalled and unclean,
I wander whirlpools in the waiting dark,
following false beacons
that bold and bitter moonlight
burn before me.

Archives By Firefangled

Even before I knew of sacred places,
they sheltered me:

blue indigo elongated along my horizontal height,
shifting leaves whispering;

a cathedral silence where I ventured into the world,
streets and stresses, vying

for senseless attention. Here also the trees, surrounding pages,
with their bark of quiet meaning.

Lit Net Book Reviews

This month’s book review was randomly selected from the Write a book Review sub-forum in general Literature.

The girl with the dragon Tatoo - Stieg Larsson

This book is the first volume of the currently European bestselling trilogy and is classified under the thriller genre.

Mickael Blomkvist, a financial reporter recently convicted of libel against a powerful business man is hired by the former chair of a swedish industrial titan. His mission is to give a fresh insight into the disappearance of his 13 year old niece, who went missing a decade ago during a family reunion.
He will receive the help of Lisbeth Salander, an unsociable hacker with a peculiar sense of authority and rules.

After only a few pages, I was sucked into the plot and I can easily understand that some people read it in one afternoon. The book is a real page turner and Stieg Larsson managed to create a dark and gloomy atmosphere on a small Swedish island.

On the other hand I have to say that I found the rythm to be quite irregular and it sometimes slows down so much that it made me put the book down more than once.
I also found it rather predictable and particularly disliked the exaustive description of IT tools and programmes which I found quite unnecessary. I wouldn't be surprised to read that the book was sponsored by IT companies.

Apart from these few negative points, I would recommend this book if you're looking for something to read while on holiday or for a long journey... To be avoided if you have to wake up early the next day as it is sometimes hard to put it down....

awww, how fun! Kim is great - one of my favorite YA stories - and I read Persuasion last month. Riesa's profile rocks and I'm so glad sprinks' blog was chosen as blog of the month!! She definitely is very mature and wise .
    I got a valentine!? I'm flattered!! .

Uh oh. I see I got a valentine too. I'm not one good at those things. And shh!, don't tell my wife.

I love this newsletter. Yay, Sprinks definitely deserve the est blog of the month. She had a couple of great ones lately.

Kim is a great novel, one of my all time favorites. And I can't wait to read Persuasion. I've been dying to read another Austen novel. Oh and don't forget Richard II in the Shakespeare discussion. I'm going to read it this weekend.

Oh, and I've got to read the Feb elimination short stories. I almost forgot.

Oh editor, you forgot the Poetry bookclub. We're reading Boris Pastenak. http://www.online-literature.com/for...ad.php?t=40589

Now why is that Lit Net takes up all my free time?

Oh, thanks invisible one for putting my poem in the newsletter, and with one by Firefangled, too.
    Happy Valentine's day to everybody!

    You are welcome Silas.
    Virgil,
Sometimes i wonder whether it is you or I who does this newsletter! :p
I would like to add everything in, but i am limited to character space.
However, there is the Letters to the editor section, which a small amount of space is dedicated too but as of yet is a small let down. If their is anything you would like to highlight, please PM me before the beginning of each month and i will add them in for you. (free of charge ;) promise! ) Thats what its there for.
    yours

Well, I still would like to know who "I" is? I still think it's Scher.

    @ Virg ~ nope, it isn't
  9. kilted exile's Avatar
Virg, I am pretty sure it is niamh - note lower case "i" the other option would be nightie, but it doesnt ramble enough to be her
  10. Silas Thorne's Avatar
I'm happy with the invisible presence.

i still can't figure out why you guys think it's a mod. Think outside the box.....

I noticed that too and the thought crossed my mind. Only thing is that Niamh usually has a lot of spelling mistakes in her posts.

That would lead me to think it's Andy who's the editor. Hmm

And that lower case "i" leads me to think it's Papaya.

Well, I guess I'll go with Andy.
  13. Madhuri's Avatar
If it is not one of the mods, then it could be Sleepy also. She is the one who keeps pulling Virgil's leg, and the writing style is also similar.
  14. Virgil's Avatar
Well, Sleepy does keep pulling my leg, but so does Papaya, and Scher, and Niamh, and on and on.... Almost everyone keeps pulling my leg.
  15. andave_ya's Avatar
    NO it's NOT me .

Cummon, with a little bit of hokey pokey it'll be clear as daylight. I only figured out who it is by a random guess .
  16. kiz_paws's Avatar
Hey, congratulations to Alakungfu and Pendragon, for your winning poetry!

The two featured personal poems are lovely, good job Silas and Fire!

It is nice to see Sprinksie's blog featured, I always enjoy reading what she has to say. Good stuff, Sprinks!

As for guessing the Editor of this fine Newsletter? Hmmmm, well that would take away the fun, wouldn't it? Still .... it does have me going. I would have guessed it was Niamh ...
  17. sprinks's Avatar
Oh wow! Thanks so much! It was quite a shock! And I feel so bad, I've barely been around lately and I come back to see my blog featured and a valentines!! To make up for it all, I'm going to go post a blog entry now that I'd like you all to read . And congrats to all those who got featured too
  18. Riesa's Avatar
Thanks for featuring my profile, what a nice surprise, I'm flattered.

Hey I just noticed that these are "anonymous valentines." So this basically means that I and most others may go our entire lives never knowing who the valentine came from. No fair I want my valentine valentine!

'Tis better to have received an anonymous valentine than none at all.
