Exiled in a kilt

Vision of Scotland?

Rate this Entry
Ok, there will be a few more entries on this subject. I would just like some opinions from those outside Scotland regarding it.

As some of you may be aware as of around 2weeks ago, the Scottish Nationalist Party is the largest party in the devolved Scottish parliament. The future entries will deal with the exact situation (as I see it) reasons for it, and what the future of Scotland as an idependent nation could be.

So what I would like is for people to tell me what image first comes into your head, when you think of Scotland?

When I think of Scotland, I think of rolling hills of green, of bagpipes, of the many beautiful tartans, the steak and kidney pie, and the beautiful red hair. I have a bit of Scottish in me courtesy of my maternal grandmother. I don't know much about Scottish politics but I am proud to say that some Scottish blood flows in my veins, along with the Icelandic and wee bit o'Irish a'course!

Very first image that came into the head was men in kilts playing bagpipes--cultural propaganda brainwashing has been very successful in maintaining cliches as one step below facts.

Now thanks to TV I think of Adrian Paul from Highlander. I'm being truthful here but somehow I feel shallower then usual for the confession. Looking forward to more entries.

P.S. My beloved Spurgeon always spoke well of the Scots and found them strong in the faith and hungry for true gospel sermons.

Well, I am afraid I have lots of the cultural brainwash propaganda thing going on too.

I am sad to say the very first thing that popped into my head was a picture of a platter of haggis...sorry.

Other things in no particular order:
    Robert Burns,
    Green countryside,
    Kilts,
    Whiskey,
    Bagpipes,
    Billy Connelly,
Mel Gibson bellowing about people not taking his freedom ...(sorry)

    and erm, haggis.

"So what I would like is for people to tell me what image first comes into your head, when you think of Scotland?" . . . . a bottle of Oban and I think of a dear friend who lives there right now, and I think of my ancestors, and I do hope that Scotland will someday again be independent from the UK - Nemo me impune lacessit - No one wounds me with impunity
