Credit Card Scare

Rate this Entry
My husband travels a LOT. He has a company-issued Major Credit Card (I dare not spell out the company, you understand).

He was in Europe for a stint just before Christmas and used this Major Credit Card for most everying, including taxis (which I shudder about -- really, shouldn't we just use cash?).

Well, the unthinkable happened, but nothing bad occured for my husband, thank gawd. The Major Credit Card people called him at his Office to say that a charge of $1,500.00 was declined, that the purchase was attempted on the other side of the world (I won't use the country name, it wouldn't matter anyhow, and I don't want anyone to feel slighted).

So there it is.

Be careful with your credit cards, people!!

My husband has had the card in question closed, and a new card with a whole new number is on its way.

What a hassle, but thankfully the Major Credit Card people are on the proverbial ball.

Humbly Yours,
K♥zzo

Well that was a lucky escape. Something similar happened to us a few years ago but fortunately we were pretty hot on checking our bill against receipts, and the credit card company had noticed some unusual spending. We tracked it back to a local petrol station (probably card cloning) and vowed never to use it again. At least it hasn't cost you any money.

I've had that happen once too, but the bank froze my account. Then I had to let them know that purchases made in Cincinnati and Seattle were fine since I was traveling between the two quite frequently. Glad to hear that it was both declined and that a new card is on the way. Much Love, Meg

I don't recall it ever happening to me. I use my American Express for everything. I hate to carry cash. With American Express one is forced to pay it off at the end of every month so there is no debt accumulation. Good thing your story had a happy ending Kizzo.

At work we use an occupational health clinic for annual physicals and any work related injuries. Last summer someone broke into the clinic and stole a few computers that contained social security numbers for some of the patients. I got to be one of those patients, I had to contact a credit company (they share info with the others) and flag my account. I forgot all about it until I found the perfect purse at Dillards and wouldn't you know it, they were giving 10% off if you opened an account with them??? hahaha imagine my surprise when the sales lady said there was a problem. At least I know the system works.

It has happened to a friend of mine also. Do not let your credit cards out of you hands or your sight if you can help it.

Hey somebody stole $450 from my debit card a couple years ago. I reported it to the bank, who later told me that it was stolen by a hacker during an online purchase I made. So much for the safeguards, eh? It took three weeks for them to return the money. That would be The Bank of New York.

That happened to me almost two years ago. I was very lucky though. My credit card bill came through just a few days after they started to "test" my details out so luckily it was a few hundred € instead of a few thousand! I spotted it myself and called the bank straight away and it turned out someone in their fraud had noticed but wasnt sure and they were going to call me within a few days? good thing i called them or a lot more could have been charged to my card! Its a nasty thing to happen. You just have to be so careful! keep your eye on your card at all times and never let someone walk away with it. It would be very easy for them to swipe it on their frauding machinary with out you even blinking an eyelid!
