Ok, I have been doing interviews the other day for a couple of openings in my crew. It is always amusing to see the prospective employees come in, sometimes you can tell right away from the person when you shake their hand whether they'll be good or not - other times it can take a while. The best bit though is trying to guess what each person will be like from reading their resume.

There were 2 cases in point that interested me:

1) Resume was perfect, well presented, high-lighted correct areas etc - however person who shows up is scruffy & hasnt even bothered to comb his hair, mumbles responses & offers no questions.

2) Obviously no knowledge in formatting, spelling & grammar mistakes etc - in person very well presented (the only one of which who showed up in a suit & tie), well spoken, shows determination & desire to work.

Think you can all guess who got the job.


Now, the other stuff. I havent felt like beating the living crap out of someone in a while (not since the bleeps who attacked my younger brother). However, at times I really feel like snapping one person in particular in half - not to worry though my temper is under control, but the way he has treated one of my friends is bugging the hell out of me

    Wow, not sure which I would have picked. I guess it depends on the type of job. I tend to weigh more in person than a resume, so I would say number 2.

    number 2 is my guess as well. I'd wonder if someone else did the paperwork. I think it would be much simpler to improve grammar and spelling than a lack of professionalism.

    I agree with motherhubbard's comment.

    As for the snapping in half of a certain pain in the butt -- careful, kilted, hold that temper in check! (or at least get him to throw the FIRST punch) -- j/k

    It does depend on the type of work. In my work, of a technical writer, whenever recruitments are done, the first thing is how well they have written their resumes, the structure, grammar, spelling, and all. If that is not right, they are simply rejected and not called for an interview.

    In other areas, such as development, no one bothers how well they are dressed. I have seen so many whose presentation skills, and also the way dress up is not up to the mark, but, they are very good in logic and hence in that job.

    the person who got the job is the missing contestant #3, who both submitted a good resume & showed determination in the interview (no suit, but this is blue collar here)
