What on Earth are they thinking!!

Rate this Entry
It is summer here in the Great Brown Land that is Australia, already this year we have had, here in the east ten days with temperatures over 30OC (86OF – Virgil I remembered this time!). In fact yesterday at 6:30pm it was still 38oC outside (100OF). Temperatures like that guarantee a few things one of which is bushfires. Bushfires have been blazing in Victoria for the last week and people’s homes have been lost, though thankfully no lives and given the great work our firefighters are renound for that will remain the case until the blazes are under control. It is heart breaking to watch the news and see a family looking at the charred black remains that was once there home. What makes this story even more tragic is that it now looks like the bushfires were deliberate started! Yes you read that right - somebody drove their car into a national park got out walked into the bush land and started a fire. What sort of a person would do that! What would be running through your mind the minute you started the blaze? These people have to know the damage that a fire will cause and that in all likelihood given how dry it is here that they are going to burn long and hard and people’s lives and homes are going to be threatened.
The possibility of catching these people is virtually zero but if they were ever to get caught a good flogging would be in order as far as I am concerned. They should than have to go and personally meet all of the families that lost their homes and everything they own as a result of the fire, after which they can enjoy an extended stay in one of our fine prison establishments.
What on Earth are some people thinking?

Oh it seems we have the same thing happen in the US every summer, especially in California. I'm sure not every one here are intentionally started or even humanly responsible (nature has a way of starting them herself) but if a person is responsible, either intentionally or unintentionally, then he should face the maximum penalty possible. Intentionally started is dispicable.

Now look, I realize that most firefighters/EMT wouldn't do something so awful, but sometimes they do. Usually it's more the case of a couple first responder punks with a blue light that never deserved one. I'm with Virge on stiff penalties, hell yeah.

Hey Jo, you are out of the way of the fires aren't you?

    thanks guys

Yes Nightshade they are well away this year so far - it sounds really bad to say that I am happy about that doesn't? I have just watched the news and they are under control for now so lets hope the wind stays down night for the firefighters (fingers and toes crossed)

We haven't had as many fires lately as in past years. Probably because it once used to be all bushland and is now houses. I hope you and your family all stay safe, and that the fires don't cause too much damage, and that people learn, and stop creating them in such a way.

jeez Jo! Some people are just Idiots! I'm sure the thoughts "nothing to worry i can handle it" probably went through someones head as they lit it! I remember a few years back on the news there was reports about major fires just outside of sydney.

God, those fires are just horrible. How are they doing now? Still under control? It just infuriates me when I hear that something like that was started by Man. It isn't funny. I don't understand the kick that people get out of doing something like that. Of course, they will most likely be starting here again soon. I always think that when there are these fires year after year when will there be no more land for the fires to burn? It really is too bad that things like that occur.

That is awful to contemplate that someone could just walk in and deliberately start a fire. Very scary indeed. But maybe they will get caught -- if they are that stupid to do this, maybe they are that stupid to brag about their 'handiwork', ya know? Lets hope; and get those flogs ready....

Thanks folks the weather has cooled here the last few days and it looks like rain so here hoping. They are all under control now which is really good news for everyone.

Niamh those fires a few years back were really bad we could actually see them from our back yard it was a tense few days let me tell you.

Becca don't let the heat put you off it is a lovely place.

Ladywentworth I have no idea what goes through their minds - nothing I would like to say but I think they know exactly what they are doing.

Kiz you are right that is how they caught a couple of guys last year.
