I’m Ready to Kick The Habit

After 20+ years of smoking I am finally ready to stop for good. I’ve tried in the past quitting cold turkey and it worked for a brief amount of time. Last year I went on Chantix and it was working but I stopped taking it too soon and started again. In September I had stopped for a week while I was on vacation but as soon as I got home I started once again. So last week while I was at the doctor I asked for another prescription for Chantix. I started the medication Saturday and Tuesday will be the last day I light up.
Over the years I have had people tell me smoking is not good for you.Believe me I know that. If you have never smoked you have no idea how addicting it is. There are people that can’t start their day without a cup of coffee and there are people like me that can’t start their day until they have a cigarette first thing in the morning. For me, I can’t talk on the phone unless I have a cigarette hanging out of my mouth. When I was working I took several breaks during the day to get my fix. Sometimes I really wanted the cigarette and other times I didn’t but I had one anyway. The only times I stopped was when I had a bad sore throat.
When I look back over the years I am sorry that I ever started. The damage that it can do to you is bad but I am not here to preach to anyone. Thank god the chest x-rays that I have had the past two years have come back fine and I would like to keep it that way. Smoking is not helping with my diabetes either but thankfully I have my diabetes under control.
Is this going to be easy ? Hell no !!! But I am ready for the challenge. Wish me luck everyone!!!
