The Sea Queen

The Sea Queen

Fallen from grace
with tears in her eyes
thrown to the bottom of the sea

Left there to die
by those who once
cried "Long live the Queen"

So quickly it can turn
left tattered in disgrace
while still clutching hold
of aristocratic pride

"Never!" she cried
"Never will I lay down and die"
Facing her fate, with eyes upturned
and whispered prayers

She hid her fear deep inside
as the shackles and chains
were set into place and the
ring echoed for miles

They all brayed like hounds
and spit on the crown
mocking laughter in their
deceitful eyes

So she was hauled over board
and sunk to the bottom
without an utterance or cry for mercy

Now regal she still sits
upon her throne of coral
and seaweed

She has not forgotten the days
when she could look upon the
sunlight, but now it was all
shadow and shade

But still her heart sung
for they could not defeat her
and the time would come
when she would rise above.

This didn't help having spent an evening reading Marvel's Agents of Atlas mini-series where one of the characters Venus by name is actually a Siren from mythology. The Disney's Little Mermaid dashed thriu the brain cells finally followed by Marie Antoinette of the recent movie. Plus I wanted the lady to Win!!!!

Haha though this was not Marie Antoinette (being she was beheaded and not drowned) but she did cross my mind while writing this. I tried to leave the ending open to interpitation with the possiblity of future revenge.
