The Girl Who Did Not Die of a Broken Heart

My satirical response to those melodramatics, who want to wallow in their self-pity over their failed relationships.

The Girl Who Did Not Die of a Broken Heart

Let me tell you a story
about a girl who once had loved
but her love was untrue
and so her heart was broken

She thought surely
she was going to die
and for days she stayed
in her room and cried

She would not be condoled
and could not be consoled
the world itself she knew
must have stopped on its axis

So she waited in her misery
any day now it was sure to happen
she could not fathom that her condition
was quite benign

Now once she had friends
and they had tried the best they could
but she denied that she would ever mend
soon enough, they were all used up
and other things to do.

You must not think them cruel
for they really did try, for weeks,
for months, but it was all to no good
for no amount of pity was enough.

She never could sleep and refused to eat
for could they not all see
that her life was surely over
why did they all act as if the world
still went on, for now that he loved her not
surely everything else had to stop.

At last it had the best of her
and she fell into her bed
as her lids grew heavy, and
her eyes closed, she knew now
at last she was dead.

So it was much to her shock
when her eyes opened again
and she looked at the clock
to see only 8 hours had passed away

Was this eternity? Was she in purgatory?
She rose from her bed, to find her room
just the way she had left it. And to the window
she went, to face her fate, as she threw
the curtain back.

And what a surprise, that met her eyes
when she saw the sky was still blue
and the birds at their songs,
and life went on, the world had not
come to an end.

Yes, she had a broken-heart
but in spite of it all, it surely did not kill her
and there was no choice left, but to accept
the fact that after all life really must go on.

Hey now--I have gotten a LOT of blog entries and mileage out of my wallowing in lost loves and misdirected glands. You hurt my Drama Queen's feelings. she's channeling Lucrecia Borgia and Lady Macbeth as we speak.

Now Mr. Insecurity has thumped the Drama Queen over the head. I really wanted to make you laugh DM. Sigh.
