Friday Night!!!! YAY!!!!

Rate this Entry
Ok, off out again tonight - one of my crews bday so going to meet up with her, some other guys from work & some of her friends to paint the town red (rickards red that is)

I am only going to have 5, this will be another test of whether I can control my thirst & maintain correct managerial distance/aloofness - something which I struggle with at times due to my gregarious nature

I must admit that I cringed when I read your idea of testing yourself. A great part of me wants very much for you to succeed but I fear the pride and presumption that may result in a false overconfidence that will backfire very badly down the road. I really should blog and update on my idiot nephew who thought he could handle alcohol also. Fortunately I'm too far away for him to move in with me and he hate my rules anyway. But not to kill all the joy--celebrate the birthday by all means just be careful. Please. Hopefully this advice/cautionary will be accepted with the grace given. Hopes this hels Rich.

I understand what you mean about managerial aloofness, though that's not exactly what I've called it. But there is suppsed to be a distance between the manager and the people who work for him. It's a fine balance to be one of the guys and yet be in charge. I'm not sure I've completely done it, certainly not well. What helps me is that the guys that work for my project (they don't actually work for me, they for the project that I manage, there is a distinction) are mostly younger, so there is a generational gap between us. I hope you do well Kilt. I know what you mean about being gregarious. That's me too.
