I was driving home from the store this morning and I passed a Home Improvement truck that was parked in front of someone’s house and it reminded me of a funny story.
Years ago my husband and I decided to have siding put up on our house. We couldn’t stand the ugly shingles that were there. So one day I am out with my dog and come home and see some guy at my door. From the bottom of the steps I start calling out to him. I said, hello can I help you ? No response. I say hello again and no response. My voice now starts to get louder, HELLO, CAN I HELP YOU ? I didn’t want to go up the stairs into my house because I didn’t know who he was or what he wanted. For all I knew he could have been a crazy person or something. This goes on for about 5 minutes. Now I’m almost yelling, HELLO CAN I HELP YOU? He finally turns around and notices me standing at the bottom of the steps. He walks down the steps and starts apologizing because he is hard of hearing (basically deaf). I manage to understand what he is saying. He was the owner of the company my husband found to do the siding. He gives me his business card and he goes on his way.
When my husband gets home I tell him of the encounter. He goes, oh yeah the guy is deaf. I say, “thanks for telling me” because I was practically yelling at this man and couldn’t understand why he was not hearing me. My husband thought it was funny.
