Halls of the Dark Muse

Satan the Savior

Alas I have emerged from the bowls and depths of hell.

*dusts of fire and brimstone* humph, it is always so hot down there this time of year. And brimstone really is worse then sand about getting into EVERYTHING. I will be cleaning it out for days.

Do try not to mind the lingering odor of sulfur in the air, that should clear out in a couple of days now, I hope.

So, I have just returned from the class on Milton/Paradise Lost.

What was I thinking? Have I completely lost my mind. Half-way through the class I began to think that I must be. You know, there was acutally an easier english class I could have taken this quarter? But know, I say, hey I am going to take the Miltion class.

Yes, I was tempted by the sweet suculent forbidden fruit of knowlege.

Satan save me!

Ordinarialy I would not be so bothered, or daunted, but I am taking 3 other classes in addtion. I have not had as many as 4 classess all at once in a LONG time.

But I shall find a way to bare through this. The teacher seems like she could be interesting. The only thing that petrubed me, is she seems to frown upon students using other editions of the text then the one she assiegend for the class.

But that is just too damn bad. Becasue text books are outragelous expensisive, and I have a printed out copy of Paradise Lost, which I had before I even heard of her class. So I am not going to waste paper and money buying something I already own.

No thank you!

I am not going to pay 20+ dollars for some new fancy edition when I can have it for free. So if she is going to get uppity about that. It is her problem.

My son turned in a term paper using the term B.C. rather then the instructor's preferred usage of B.C.E. The instructor took 5 points off-my son asked for them back and had to file a discrimination grivance citing the university forcing THEIR beliefs on HIM. He got the grade adjusted but the instructor talked as little as possible to him after that. Your teacher reminded me of that teacher. Hang in there.

Yes, so far I have mixed feelings about her, though it was only the first class so I will see how it goes. There were a couple of things she said that rubbed me the wrong way a bit. And there is just something about her, I am not completely sold.

Besides what is nice about my own copy, is at least in the first two books which I read for another class back in my comminity college days, is that it already has a bunch of nice passages highlighted and notes I made.

Muse I agree with you 100% text books are way to expensive and I am sure there are much better things to spend your money on. Some teacher think they rule the universe. Go with your gut and your books that have notes already in there. I agree with mtpspur hang in there.

Books have gotten incredibly expensive. Milton is not easy I will admit. I recommend some book aids that help you through. I'm sure Paradise Lost has several.

Oh that's great Muse. Some day, not this year I don't think, I will re-read Paradise Lost and I hope I can remember these sites.
