A Little Bit of Everything

Christmas Returns

Rate this Entry
Christmas left me
as a child many moons ago
Christmas than was happy
full of family, gifts and snow
of laughter and of joy
without strife or worry
without all the rushing
the busyness, the flurry
But last year christmas spirit
seemed to have been lost
and with the other empty bags
upon the dumpster tossed
it dissappeared amonsgt the crowds
was hidden by the presents
but hope came in the form of a manger
and its tiny resedent
I discovered its true meaning
and all the joy it holds
that without gifts and hurrying
a happily ever after still can be told
I discovered without gifts
more joy actually came to me
in the form of friendship
and the warmth of family
tradition our the window
my family gathered this year
without the mounds of Christmas gifts
we still spread our cheer
and I found myself smiling
and whispering to myself
as I took the family Bible
of its dusty shelf
"Christmas time never left me
indeed it was always here
we just changed the meaning
trying to make it more clear
but love is hard to package
it can't be wrapped or bowed
it can only be remembered
and than passed on and showed
through little acts and big ones too
amonsgt family and friends
and in this way, after December
Christmas never has to end."

Yes, I agree, very nice. My favorite portion of all would have to be the ending
    "Christmas time never left me
    indeed it was always here
    we just changed the meaning
trying to make it more clear
but love is hard to package
it can't be wrapped or bowed
    it can only be remembered
and than passed on and showed
through little acts and big ones too
    amonsgt family and friends
and in this way, after December
    Christmas never has to end."
So true. My hubby said something quite simple, yet quite profound the last Christmas his father was with us. "The best gift we can give him (his father) is our time and our commitment to as good a quality of life that we can give him while we have him." [It was something like that, anyhow]. I am proud of my hubby and these words never left me. So your poem echoed that thought to a degree with me as I read it. Thanks for sharing your poem.
