Banning myself!

Rate this Entry
Thats it! i'm banning myself from buying books until i read all the ones sitting around my gaff calling out to me to read them.

I have plenty of good books just waiting to be read and some of them were bought at least a year or two ago! Shame on me!

And god knows how much money i would save if i do ban myself from buying books other than the book club reads. Books are an addiction to me!

And it doesnt help that i work for a booksellers!

Ban starting tomorrow!!
I mean it!

Well aren't you pretty! Yes - I know what you mean. Book buying is like an well-intentioned addiction, or like a giant plate of savory food when one has a small appetite. (-:

Niamh, can you ban me too? My 'to read' book pile is about 4 feet high and my 'to buy' book list is a similar height. I don't know how you resist it, working at a book store. I would be investing all my wages back into the business!

My friend use to tease me about how books are like my drug, and I am book junky, and just out of control when it comes to books.

not today! Finished work at 2pm and made the decission when i got home! I have so many books to read its unbelievable! I've a few Elizabeth Gaskell books to read, Neverwhere by Gaiman, Pratchett, Coelho, Woman in White by wilkie collins which i think i've had for about tens years!

I totally sympathize. I have the same problem. The worst aspect of my addiction is if i read a writer i like, i go out and buy as much as i can get. And there it sits. Just this week I ran out and bought a beat up copy of The Great Gatsby (where did my old copy go?) and a honking collection of Fitzgerald's short stories. Why? Oh, why?
I'll tell you. I secretly believe God won't kill me until I've finished the stack. More books make me immortal.

My problem isn't so much buying books--it's reading them once they are bought. There are at least over a dozen books I've started and stopped in the middle of a chapter if I get the least bit interrupted or (occasionally) bored with a section and I'm the anal type that has to READ every word. I'm like PabloQ above if I like an author I go out and get as much as I can--which is probably why I avoid James Patterson and Clive Cussler novels.

Good luck to you with that:lol: I don't know how much I would spend on books if I were working in a book store. Right now I can just not let myself go, and instead I frequent the library. Working at the bookstore would be far too much temptation. Much love, Meg

Boy this hit a nerve. Yeah I do this too. I have piles of books unread. I wish I knew how tho stop. But I bet you will regret these words: "I mean it." Because I bet by tomorrow you won't mean it.

Hey for a second I thought you were banning yourself from lit net. Thank God for that.

I know what you mean...I buy books and then I don't read them. We should start a thread on this...books you bought, but haven't read.

Haha reminds me of when I was a child and instead of getting gaming consoles or television taken off me when I was in trouble (which was the punishment of all the other kids), my parents would take my books off me until I was better behaved or had cleaned my room or something .
