Update on Adoption

Rate this Entry
It’s been a while since my last update, so for those of you that have been following my journey, here’s an update.
First I want to start off by announcing I have a new great nephew that was born this past Saturday weighing in at 9 lbs and 20 ½ inches long. Mom, dad and baby sister are so happy that the baby was born healthy and all are doing well.
Now for the adoption update:
We are currently waiting for the completion of our homestudy. My husband and I completed and passed the on-line course we were required to take. I thought for sure my husband would have some difficulty with some of the questions but he zipped thru fairly quickly. I on the other hand had put too much stress on myself in answering the questions which is why I took so long to finish it.
I had previously mentioned that my first set of fingerprints were rejected so I had to have them redone. Well, the second set was rejected as well and had to have them done a third time. The second time they were rejected because they were too dark and smudged. I had to pay to have them redone but the guy that took them only charged me ½ price the second time. The third time I had them done I did not have to pay. It’s been going on a month now since my third set was sent in and I am hoping that this time they were approved since I have not heard anything.
I have been in contact with our adoption coordinator to find out what the next step is. Our next step is applying for Immigration approval allowing us to adopt from abroad. This process usually takes 1 – 3 months. Unfortunately, we cannot start this process until our homestudy and background checks have been completed. I’m trying to get an update from our social worker on this.
Once this has been obtained we start working on our dossier. The dossier consists of 23 documents where some have to be notarized and/or apostilled. Then it has to be translated to country’s language. This will be taken care of for us. One thing we don’t have to worry about, YAY!!!!. The dossier then gets sent overseas to country we are adopting from for signatures and approval. (I’m giving you shortened version). Once all approved we then wait for “letter inviting us to travel” when we get to meet our son or daughter. Stay in country for a certain amount of time, more paperwork to do when there, then given ok to go home with our beloved child. Journey completed!!!!

Well I think everything is going well and really hope for the blessed day sometime this year. As to hubby answering questions properly--their is the sweet way of doing and the 2x4 method--your choice.

Why is it that most wives think their husbands are dolts? I'm sure your husband zipped right through because he had read everything carefully and was intelligent enough to comprehend. "Apostilled," what's that?

Good luck! I hope this lot of fingerprints works, and that everything goes smoothly from there.

The hubby and I recvd good news last night. Our social worker called to tell us our child abuse and criminal background check came back ok. Of course we knew it would. Next he is going to send us some documents that we need to double check for accuracy.
Things are starting to move again.
It's been 20 months since we have started this journey and there have been some bumps along the way. Our original country of choice closed down their doors for international adoption which we knew there was a possibility it would happen. That is why it seems to be taking a long time.

M-H: I have set my expectations for the end of the year.

Rich: I had to laugh at your response.

Virgil: I didn't say that all husbands are dolts, just mine. HEHE!!

I really hope you guys find success in the adoption. Lovely people like yourselves deserve happiness like this.
And go easy on the husband. I'm sure he is probably as stressed as you!
    *hugs*

That is amazing news, pussnboots...but the time it has taken to go through this difficult process; I can't even imagine the stress. I wonder why the fingerprints kept getting rejected. That part was very strange. I hope the current ones are acceptable. Poor you. I know how tough it is in the hierarchy of agencies and rules and regulations. The system is definitely flawed. These agencies seem to make it almost impossible; but good for you! You persisted and now it looks like things will progress rapidly after all of this. I surely hope so. I hope soon you can go and pick out your child. That can't be an easy thing either. I know that someday real soon, you will look back on all of this, and it will be but a blur, when your hold your new beloved child in your arms. It gives me shivers just to think of it; I can't wait to hear that that day is close at hand. I know it is going to happen. 2009 feels like a big year of change for some reason, so it is appropriate that this will be the year you take a child into your family.

Congratulations on the great nephew, PnB!

I also hope that this recent set of fingerprints comes out all good -- it just adds more stress to you when you certainly have enough already. I'll cross my fingers that all these processes you must go through go speedily with no bumps!

Wow, you're going to adopt a baby!! How wonderful. Perhaps I missed it, but do you decide already from which country you're going to adopt the baby? I'm excited to hear this news!

And congrats for the new nephew!
