Halls of the Dark Muse

A Dying Rose

A Dying Rose

You watch the rose die
slowly each day
with no reason why
beauty must always
ebb and fade

Yet there is something
beautiful in the decay
regal as a dishonored Queen
it begins to pallor a little more
without complaint or loosing
dignity

When at last
no longer can it stand
there remains frozen
as the Briar Rose
a mask of the splendor
it once possessed

In this last defiance
there beats something
of a true Romance.

Thoughts of Marie Antoinette and Cloris Leachman came to mind. Now I have to explain the Leachman thought. Beyounce is wanting to actas Wonder Woman is an off again on again movie production which automatically made me think of Lynda Carter and guess who played HER mother in the original Wonder Woman movie? Amazing where your poems take me.

I have always been fascinated by Marie Antoniette, though I can say I did not write this with her in mind.
