Hello dear reader,
I have once again reached the stage where my bordem has inspired me to submit another blog entry. Litnet members, I apologize for torturing you with the details of my boring day to day life.

Oddly enough, I have quite a variety of things I wish to discuss this evening which I suppose is good.

A fortnight ago, I embarked on a trip to Belgium in order to visit a series of museums, war cemeteries and trenches. In all honesty? The museums bored the living daylights out of me The war cemeteries were particularly haunting I must say; very somber places...

But I did actually have one of the most bizzare, fun and enlightening experiences of my life on this trip. This was at a place named "Vimmy Ridge," just north of the Somme, where the trenches are so very well preserved. We were permitted to wander through the underground trench tunnels - some of them stretching the whole length of the trench area. Upon entering this tunnel, It was brought to my attention that I was not going to see the light of day for at least 5 minutes; I then spent this time staggering through uneven, very puddly terrain, praying to God I'd get out without trench foot. I do feel ever so slightly guilty; about halfway through my little excursion I was starting to get a little scared and called out for the "guide" (It was just me and herself in there).
"Excuse me? Are you still there?"
"Yes, hello?"
"Emmm... I can't see and I'm not sure where I am"
"Okay, heres my arm, just grab onto it and don't be so worried"
I literally grabbed onto her arm for dear life, I think she may still be recovering

Never a dull moment eh? Futhermore, on my ferry crossing back over the channel, we were apparently hit by a 25ft wave!
I thank you for reading (if you did).
Regards,
LadyW.

What's your interest in war and war cemeteries? I would love to see those trenches. Were they interesting?

I'm fascinated by modern history, particularly 20th century wars. The Great War, WWII, The Cold War, Vietnam etc. The trenches were amazing, so well preserved; and I must say quite realistic considering it had been raining so heavily the night before - the ground was absolutely saturated. Everything was in place, empty shells, barbwire, the sand bags. I would highly recommend a visit
